Jan 13, 2015 Something I've always wondered, it's probably been said many times, but I missed it if so. Dude has talent on the mic. Anyone know what happened? Imo he was real underrated, still listening to his music till this day. His most recent song is "Get Em," pretty dope track that dropped last year.
Jan 13, 2015 what i want to know is why dre is stil considered an icon when he never made any beat nor wrote any verse
Jan 13, 2015 Because 'gangsta' rap isn't as marketable as it was in the early 00's. Because his whole image is relative to religious themes as well as 'gangsta' which is also really hard to market. etc. etc. etc. I'm a huge Bishop fan, but it's pretty clear why he was dropped...
Jan 13, 2015 Majority of Games songs are gangsta as well, especially early in his career, but he's real big & Bishop isn't. I think there is more to it than that. What you're saying is believable though, don't see much gangsta rap anymore.
Jan 13, 2015 Yeah there is more to it than that. Game popped up at around the peak of 'gangsta' rap, Bishop popped up during the decline in 'gangsta' rap. Game still retains most of his fans/followers/his fame from his 'blow-up' after documentary. His newer music is also more beat orientated over lyricism and it appeals to the masses more. He also has a large social media presence and posts pics of him showing his rich-people s--- off. Bishop doesn't have that.
Jan 13, 2015 Well, in my opinion, his appeal doesn't come from the beats he makes/the verses he writes. The appeal is from the songs he was able to put together. I'll use 'still DRE' as an example... Dre didn't write the verses, Dre didn't make majority of the beat. BUT because of Dre that song exists. Like, I don't know the detailed process of how still dre was made, but I know that he got Storch working keys, then he heard the 'still Dre' keys and used it to make the beat. once the beat was done all he had to do was write some verses for it, but instead of using his own sub-par writing skills, he had a team run through the studio writing all these verses till he was like "yeah thats good". (Jay wrote his verse/s for those who didn't know) I just think he's the guy that gets all the right people together, to make the right songs.
Jan 13, 2015 he did nothing to make them what they were tho look up who were the engineers and co producers and they did everything
Jan 13, 2015 People say that, but we can't know for certain what he did and didn't do in regards to specifics. We do know he brought together winning combinations throughout the 90s and early 2000s resulting in a handful of classic albums and several rap careers. Without him, I'm doubtful that any of those things exist. Not to mention using his pop culture status to head a label and sell a product for hundreds of millions of dollars. Dude was the face of gangster rap and he's about to be a billionaire. How many legends get there on merit alone? Less than you'd think.
