So hear me out here, I'm about to explain to y'all why this n----- is the face of progression in hip hop.
So, for starters, I would ask y'all to peep his self titled EP and the Breathe EP, both released within a month of each other. Or at least songs such as and
Did you check them? No you didn't, go back up and check them. One is a turnt-up moshworthy b-----r, and another is some straight Kendrick-level poetic s---. That outro
Now, many have dismissed Maco as a one-hit wonder due to "U Guessed It", but that song alone shows how different he is, that song was extremely minimal compared to literally any other trap b-----r. OG Maco appreciates the artistry behind music, and isn't afraid to incorporate it into even his most ignorant of works.
But even when he's not doing experimental bangers, he's straight tearing s--- up with songs like "All On Me", songs that aren't quite as tinged with that slight quirkyness that permeates most of OG Maco's discography. Not only does he bring art to trap, but he can turn around and just go HAM on s---.
And then there's his Breathe EP. That's what solidified it for me. At first I thought Maco was just an awesome trap artist, akin to A$AP Ferg. Someone who tinkers with the trap formula enough to take away the generic aspects that usually turn off less casual listeners. But then you hear how lyrical he gets.
I mean god d---, he straight up sounds like Joey Bada$$ on this s---. It's crazy how he can flip between these two styles. And even his lyrical s--- is different because he incorporates trap drum loops amongst other elements in what would otherwise sound at home on a Wu-Tang record.
OG Maco, in months, has proven that he can make bangers, poems, and most things in between. Think about what he can do now that he has the budget to go all out, and can flex his creative muscles even more.
OG Maco is the face of progression in mainstream hip hop, not unlike an up-and-coming Kanye was when he released the legendary College Dropout. Maco is no Death Grips, but within the confines of non-avant garde rap, he is the one leading the way.Lil Squeed, SaviorOfS80 and Narsh like this.(This ad goes away when signing up)
