Jan 25, 2015 So hear me out here, I'm about to explain to y'all why this n----- is the face of progression in hip hop. So, for starters, I would ask y'all to peep his self titled EP and the Breathe EP, both released within a month of each other. Or at least songs such as and Did you check them? No you didn't, go back up and check them. One is a turnt-up moshworthy b-----r, and another is some straight Kendrick-level poetic s---. That outro Now, many have dismissed Maco as a one-hit wonder due to "U Guessed It", but that song alone shows how different he is, that song was extremely minimal compared to literally any other trap b-----r. OG Maco appreciates the artistry behind music, and isn't afraid to incorporate it into even his most ignorant of works. But even when he's not doing experimental bangers, he's straight tearing s--- up with songs like "All On Me", songs that aren't quite as tinged with that slight quirkyness that permeates most of OG Maco's discography. Not only does he bring art to trap, but he can turn around and just go HAM on s---. And then there's his Breathe EP. That's what solidified it for me. At first I thought Maco was just an awesome trap artist, akin to A$AP Ferg. Someone who tinkers with the trap formula enough to take away the generic aspects that usually turn off less casual listeners. But then you hear how lyrical he gets. I mean god d---, he straight up sounds like Joey Bada$$ on this s---. It's crazy how he can flip between these two styles. And even his lyrical s--- is different because he incorporates trap drum loops amongst other elements in what would otherwise sound at home on a Wu-Tang record. OG Maco, in months, has proven that he can make bangers, poems, and most things in between. Think about what he can do now that he has the budget to go all out, and can flex his creative muscles even more. OG Maco is the face of progression in mainstream hip hop, not unlike an up-and-coming Kanye was when he released the legendary College Dropout. Maco is no Death Grips, but within the confines of non-avant garde rap, he is the one leading the way.
Jan 26, 2015 His self titled is filled with bangers and his Breathe EP is for his conscious stuff. I'd highly recommend both. I can't comment on his older s--- tho
Jan 26, 2015 I listened to Breathe EP after seeing the thread. I like that he tried to rap about relevant topics (not only because of the recent incidents), and he sounded really energetic on Riot. Get Down and Riot were good tracks, I didn't really like Do Better though, found it uninspiring and generic tbh. He's decent, but he didn't really explore in depth the social phenomena that he's talking about. Maybe his other EP will stand out more.
Jan 26, 2015 I like the fact that he's making it accessible to the uninformed listeners. OG Maco is the vessel through which ignant listeners will see the light and start to approach more conscious s---. He doesn't do conscious as good as others but he's an amazing crossover between it and ignorant s---.
Jan 27, 2015 This could be true, and probably the reason that I wasn't impressed. A few of his other trap songs sounded better, haven't listened to the whole tape yet.
Jan 27, 2015 Keith Ape heavily influenced by OG Maco. Would argue this version is better then Maco's.
Jan 27, 2015 Bruh I been bumping this for a minute, but idk I think OG Maco still dies it better. These guys just kinda jacked his style and packaged it for Asian audiences. No hate, I just think that Maco does it better.
Jun 8, 2015 maco is good but what are you even talking about? he's nowhere near as good as a handful of other < 25 y/o rappers
Jun 8, 2015 I disagree good sir, I feel like he has everything needed to lead the way (not saying he's the best, I'm saying he can be the most prominent)
Jun 8, 2015 Haven't hopped on the Maco train yet... ...I don't think I'm in a real big hurry to, either. Sorry @Skippy
Jun 8, 2015 Maybe if his breakout single wasn't u guessed it I would check em out but nah we good without og maco ova here
