Feb 4, 2015YG is handed a CD full of DJ Mustard beats and makes a light concept album full of great party songs and a few good storytelling tracks.
Em has access to Dre's production vault and he makes a "concept album" about being an arabic serial r--ist.

MMLP2 is much much better than MKL. Now that I got this out of the way lets start.
We could go on for days and talk about something completely subjective like which album "sounds" better. Some just enjoy certain things. But denying that Em isn't back to form, on MMLP2 at least, is blasphemy and straight up denying a fact. Em hasn't had lyrics as sharp as some on the MMLP2 since like TES. And before you start throwing a few s-----y ones at me, prime marshall had those too. Before you start talking about him chopping bars (which he isn't doing much on the LP2), prime marshall did that too. Btw, this "prime" term is stupid too since Em now is a better rapper than he was back in the day. You can try to deny that but to the core, he's a better rapper. Now, whether the music has gotten worse or not is a completely subjective fact.
Do I personally think that Em fell off after TES? Absolutely, but see, here's the thing. While both Relapse and Recovery have some gems here and there, they are lackluster and obviously pale in comparison to his first three. h---, those two don't even come close to MMLP2. Bad Guy alone completely snorts the entirety of Relapse and Recovery combined. Yes, even better than Deja Vu, Beautiful(which shouldn't even be in the conversation but whatever) and other tracks.
Some of the lines on the MMLP2 are something that Em back in 2000 would have written too. "Evil Twin" is full of lines like these, "so much better" contains that old witty humor from Em with lines like the lesbian one that had me burst out in laughter which he hasn't done since like I listened to Encore the first time back in 2004 (album is still s--- though and a complete disgrace). Em is on point when it comes to the lyrics on the MMLP2. And before you come at me with stuff like "we never said that Em is bad lyrically, he just can't craft a good song/project anymore", I would have to disagree. Bad Guy, RoR, Legacy, Rap God, Brainless, So far, Love Game, Headlights, and so on, still prove that he can craft not only good, but great songs.
And now to MKL. I enjoyed the album a lot when it first dropped, but looking at it in retrospect it sounds repetitive as f---. Mustard doesn't have a lot of variety on that project and neither do the other producers. Now, I know that some of ya'll are going to say "but that is what makes the album cohesive". Maybe, but with this album I would have to disagree. You can have a lot of variety and still make a cohesive and coherent project. GKMC is one of those.
And if 2014 hadn't had so many lackluster and flopping albums, nobody would have cared about MKL as much as they do now. Though the hype surrounding that album has died down quikly just like with mastermind.
Since we are at it, you saying that the album is a 'light' GKMC just proves to me that most of ya'll don't even have an actual opinion on this album. Ya'll are basically admitting that it's copying the formula of that album(which admittedly, YG has admitted too), and thus it's not really original or at least pushing the formula like we know it. He basically took something that worked, stripped it down and ya'll fell for it because he used some catchy Mustard beats. The R'n'b tracks aren't as good as the ones on GKMC either and as standalone tracks they are by far the worst on the album.
What I'm trying to get at with all of the s--- I've written. Em is definitely a better writer than YG and hasn't fallen of as much as people think he has. There is no doubt that Encore is one of the worst albums of all time, Relapse had a few stupid fillers and Recovery's production was all over the place, but, MMLP2 has brought back so many nostalgic things that made me a fan in the first place alongside certain things that have made Em the legend he is back in the day. That's why I love the album, but I'm fine with people not liking it for this or that reason. What pisses me off, or lets say kinda "urks" me, is the way ya'll are expressing your opinion on Em nowadays as if he has dropped something on the level of wackness like, I don't know, maybe Yeezus or Kanye's next album.
One thing I noticed is that ya'll dickride p4k way harder than ktt too lmao.. maybe because WPG is writing for that page. If WPG was an Em stan ya'll would be too. Same goes for any other mod. But it's like that on many other forums too so there goes that.Michael Myers, DKC, DJ Lithium and 2 others like this. -
