He just said that Nike is what caused him to make those songs, not that that's what they are explicitly about. I don't care about his shoes or pay attention to his fashion ventures, but if him feeling like he got s--- on by the fashion industry as a black man is what got him angry enough to make a song like New Slaves (which, yes, he does talk about fashion, but it's also very explicitly about the prison industrial complex), then that's fine by me.
