Honestly I've always felt like Future was mostly good, sometimes great but rarely transcendent. Thug, on the other hand... is mostly transcendent, sometimes great and almost never goes below that. I think Future gets overhyped as f--- when Thug should be getting more attention.

That's no disrespect, I'm a fan of Future's music, but I think we all know "he Tito" and "[Thug] Micheal (sic)"

Okay, so like... I love Young Thug to death. But I wish he wouldn't address the gay rumors like this. I'm not a PC Bro or anything but 'f--' is so played out at this point, and really just makes you look ignorant as f---. You can't even argue that Thug isn't using it in a homophobic way here, because it's explicitly referencing gay accusations. Honestly I think the best thing for him to do would be not say anything at all. Or just say, "I dress like a prince, muddyfucka." Yeah it doesn't rhyme but really using f-- or fa---- isn't cool and it doesn't play well on my conscious to know that my favorite artist is cool with using it in a derogatory way towards gay people.

Future seems to feign depth to me, while occasionally stumbling upon it, while thug feigns nothing but ends up touching on every emotion, thought, and seemingly irrelevant aside under the sun

But you are underrating future. Many moments from monster till now have been "transcendent"

News or somthn is one of the best rap songs ever.

Nah I feel the same way (like when future says "u ain't gon get no extra points pullin no fa---- move")

But it's a form of expression in their art and it's not directly perpetuating hate so I can look past it.

In thugs case this song is already a few years old, and in the line he's quoting what people call him, not calling someone else a f-- etc

Like on the promise when he goes "please make em understand that I ain't no fruit" it seems more from genuine insecurity than him shilling hate

But yeah it's not something I ignore either

what are some other songs of Future's that you could call "transcendent?" I've listened to all of his Monster-since work (and some previous album/mixtapes) and I would only be able to say for sure would be Gangland, Mad Luv, Codeine Crazy, Thought It Was a Drought, Lil One, Blow a Bag, March Madness, Trap n----s, and Diamonds Dancing.

I know you're gonna hate me for not putting anything from BM on there. My favorite tracks on that tape are Oooooh and Real Sisters

That's overstating a bit but basically just going beyond the ordinary limits; surpassing; exceeding. I think for the most part Future makes good trap music, but rarely transcends that.
