Although I don't mind them, those skits on his earlier albums and/or the lengthy outros are usually skippable or decrease replay value

    Kanye is super inconsistent lyrically
    Graduation was too poppy
He neglects his own artists (Sean at first, CyHi)
Not only does he have controversial opinions, but he verbalizes them as poorly as I've ever seen someone
    Also s-----y skits imo

I consider probably around 100 albums classic. There are ppl that think every song on that album is a 10 out if 10, to me thats overrating the album.

You picking up what im putting down yet?

I actually get this, because I feel the same way about GKMC that you do about MBDTF.

That's overrating the songs, not the album. If it's already a classic (around the 9-10/10 range), another 10/10 song makes it, what, classicer?

I don't know many people who'd say that every song in MBDTF is a perfect ten, I can say that they all add up to a great album that's rated higher than the sum of its parts, and its minor flaws don't bring it down.

No like i said, when it gets to the point where ppl are comparing it with Illmatic thats when i call it overrated. Doesnt mean i dont think its a classic album, i just think ppl putting it in the GOAT conversation is highly overrating it. Overrating songs on the album is overrating the album lol...

Your argument that something classic cant be overrated doesnt make sense. If someone wants to tell me Lebron is the GOAT then i would say they are overrating him, because Jordan is the GOAT.

I feel that way about GKMC as well

You can't overrate something that's rated the highest possible. If an album's a classic (something around 9-10/10) you can't overrate it because, well, it doesn't get higher than what it actually is.

I'll repeat that nobody said that MBDTF has only 10/10 songs. And as I said, this album is more than the sum of its parts anyway. By your logic, a greatest hits compilation is the best album possible? What about narrative, or context, or progress during the record? Do they matter at all? If you're listening to albums on shuffle, it probably doesn't (or if the artist himself/herself doesn't have a clear direction in his music, the music itself can still be good though).

Also, Illmatic is probably the most iconic rap album, this doesn't exclude other albums from being perfect, especially albums that are different in pretty much everything; the sound, the content, etc. There's no absolute zero, or should I say ten, in music. More albums can share the first place for different reasons, then it's just a matter of your mood, or personal preference. Albums like 36 Chambers and Aquemini, or LZ IV and Revolver are classics, but they're not compared for a reason. Unless we pick an album from each genre, give it a ten, and rate the rest like 9.98 or some stupid s--- like that. In this case, bumping a song from 8/10 to 9/10 makes the album better, yeah, good catch there, MBDTF is now 9.87.

I'm sorry for going off topic. Idc about criticising Kanye as a person, as for bad choices regarding his music, I agree with Big Country's post. He's probably a big douche but this doesn't affect me as a person :dno:

Ummm then you didnt post on SL, I saw multiple reviews with ppl giving every song a 10. I dunno who you think you are to definitively say nobody has said the album is all 10/10's.

Is this your rule? im sorry but this isnt true. Ppl can have varying definitions of a classic album as well because i certainly dont have MBDTF rated "the highest possible". There are a couple songs i dont even listen to on that album but the ones i do make up for the rest. Like i said i have probably 100 albums i consider classics, doesnt mean that every song is a 9-10/10. Could just mean that the album has 5-6 songs that are incredible or that i personally love and the rest of the album could be good/very good.

I consider MMLP a classic(BTW Kim is a 0/10 song), more for the way i viewed it when it came out/growing up. But dont tell me these Em stans dont overrate that s---.

I was a member in SL from the first months. Nobody could support a claim like this, and personally I haven't seen people saying this anyway. This isn't SL and I haven't seen people here say that Monster for example is a perfect track*. Will we talk about how MMLP2 is on Illmatic's lvl now? This was another thread in SL. I thought we weren't trolling here (I mean in this discussion). There are dudes saying Kim is top notch because, you know, emotional stuff dude, and storytelling, and I hate women, em best rapper ever etc

I think that classic is the highest rating possible, because that's what the word means, unless you're writing it with capital C, then we're talking about greek literature. Anyway, from what I said in my previous post I think it's clear that I consider "classic" albums to be the very best, and I assume that when someone is talking about a classic album, he's talking about a record close to 10. A classic album, to me, has no skippable songs, and the songs must synergise well together*. I don't know what else I have to say about this matter. Is a 7/10 a classic? No, it's a good album. Is a 9-10/10 a classic? Yes. A bit miscommunication here between us it seems, but it's fine.

I agree with this, actually that's what I meant when I said that an album can be more than the sum of its parts*.

It depends, I won't argue with this. 5 incredible tracks on a 20 song album isn't that great, 5 incredible tracks on a 7-song album is a huge deal, etc etc. There's also a similar discussion about this in another thread, something along the lines of "if the album has bad tracks do they matter or you judge it based on its best songs". And since you mentioned GKMC, Real is a mediocre song which has to be in the album because it leads to the story's conclusion. It's needed as part of the storyline, but the bad execution hurts the album a bit imo, but it's not that big of a deal. Maybe we should have classic 9's and classic 10's lol

I agree with the bolded part lol, that song's unlistenable. The album also has that Bizzare feature (the rest of the song is amazing though) and personally I can't stand the angst in some parts of The Way I Am but it's a good song. These are my only complaints I think. Ofc Em stans will overrate it, but that's for another thread.
