Had this idea for a topic that I think would be a great way to get a general idea of sectioneighty's taste in rap and possibly expose people to new music. I'll start with only rap albums since that's what's most popular here, but I might move onto other genres depending on how popular this is/isn't:
Every day or two (or whenever I feel like updating if we get good discussion/I forget) I'll update the topic title with a new album. Everyone rates the album out of ten and writes a blurb about why they gave the album that rating. I'm not asking for an in-depth review, just a sentence or two about why you like or dislike the album. At the end of each rating period, I'll add up all the scores and post sxn80's average score for said album. Other mods feel free to update this topic with another album if I forget.
Rules:
1. Bold your rating so it's easier for me to see.
2. Don't rate an album if you haven't listened to it at least a few times.
3. I won't count your rating if you don't write a blurb.
4. Feel free to nominate an album you want to see rated by sectioneighty.

BUMP. With all the dumb s--- going on recently I've spent too much time monitoring children in OT and not enough time discussing music, which is what I'm here for primarily. This was one of my favorite topics, so I'm reviving it. Rules pasted form the first page:

9/10 might just be Gibbs best work to date, the production is great, no weak songs (people that hate on basketball wives need to end it) and his new sing/rap style on this tape is great. I'd say this is equal to Pinata and slightly better than Midwestboxframemusic or whatever the f--- that tapes title is

This album aged beautifully, It outclasses illmatic lyrically and production wise, but has a slightly less consistent tracklist. I cant think of an album that excecuted the mafioso-style better than this.
Favorite tracks: Take it in blood, affirmative action, the message

By far my favorite Nas album. "It Was Written" strays away from the gritty sound of Illmatic and is a much more polished sounding album. If "Illmatic" was Nas observing crime through his bedroom window as a kid, "It Was Written" is Nas as a teen going out and experiencing that lifestyle himself. Per usual Nas can illustrate hood stories like very few can: with such detail and charisma. He takes you from wherever you are and places you in his setting. A classic album that I still have the urge to listen to till this day. 8.7/10
P.S. Foxy Brown's verse on Affirmative Action still gives me goose bumps lolmarmin shkreli, Jay Zeus, Fitzy and 4 others like this. -

Nas is one of the greats and this album is a testament to that. The Message is one of my favorite Nas and Hip-Hop songs of all time, and I have personal love for The Set Up as well as If I Ruled the World. My only true gripe with the LP is the abundance of weak hooks. However, Nas more than makes up for it with great verse after great verse, whether it be Nas's ability to depict the world around him or his effortless flow. Love the Dre production on Nas is Coming, as well as the Cornega and AZ features. 9.2 /10 for meFitzy, Ordinary Joel, Fire Squad and 4 others like this. -

7.5/10 This was the first joey project i ever heard, some of his best tracks on here like 95 till infinty, my yout, unorthodox, but it definitley has some filler tracks. Cant really call it a good front to back listen but its definitley a solid mixtape and i havent stopped replaying some of these tracks since it dropped.Ordinary Joel, Groovy Tony, Fire Squad and 4 others like this. -

Great work on this so far @BigCountry
Love this album but it's overly long. Nostalgia definitely keeps me loving this, so many catchy songs. But towards the end it feels like it should have been only like 15 tracks. Also I was bummed when I bought the deluxe edition that had a music video for each song and they were all low-budget videos (as far as I remember). However the first half of the album isI still remember hearing it blaring out of a guy's car in the Wendy's drive-thru the week it came out, when I worked there.. and I was like hey I have that cd and it was bumpin'
The Hate It or Love It remix is still a fave of mine. Was it the only song with all 5 G-Unit members (at the time) on it?Ordinary Joel, Fire Squad, Skippy and 4 others like this. -

I, like many users here, used to be a huge stan. These days I don't find myself listening to Eminem very often, but when I do, it's pretty much 100% this album. It's a great showcasing of his technical ability without it sounding rappity rap-y for the sake of being rappity rap-y (Rock Bottom is a good example). He was actually funny back then, and I think it strikes the perfect balance between the cartoonish violence of the Slim Shady character (I'm Shady, Just Don't Give a f---), with his more introspective songs (If I Had, Rock Bottom), and narrative driven ones (Brain Damage, As the World Turns). The dated shock value/skits bring it down a bit...as a 25-year-old, listening to someone (who was older than me when he wrote it) rap about raping someone just does not do anything for me.
