Jan 6, 2016 7.5/10 Haven't heard this record in full in quite awhile and not much has changed in what I've always thought about it. At their best they remind us of why we rate them so highly in the first place it's hard to argue against songs like New Day, n----s In Paris and Otis being nothing short of standards in the rap industry. They might have dropped the ball a few times on the project but the positives on here outweigh them and their is this aesthetic about this album that keeps you on the edge of your seat, I mean who wouldn't want to miss Jay & Ye trading bars over avant-garde production?
Jan 6, 2016 I wasn't feeling that voice in the background at first. It sounded a little better now when I actually listened to the song. I was listening to those songs superficially and already had the mindset that I wouldn't really like them. Still not really enjoying That's My b---- though. Not sure what it is.
Jan 6, 2016 I remember not diggin this too much on first listen mostly due to overhype but im bout to give it another listen to get a fresh take on it. Will check back in.
Jan 6, 2016 Ok, yeah i forgot how many tracks from this I used to have on repeat back in the day. This project seems to be missing something as a whole, regardless of at least half the tracks on here being 9/10s. I love no church in the wild as the intro track, and i actually think lift off is a solid song, but the 4 track run from n----s in paris, to otis, to gotta have it, to new day is so goat . Probably one of my favorite runs in an album. Then it dips around the middle but still has some really solid songs on the second half. Still, i feel like as a whole project its missing something but it has too many gems on it. Id give it a 8/10
Jan 6, 2016 7/10 Among the first hip hop album I heard, pre-Stan phase, I constantly had it on replay when I first heard it, and was blown away by some tracks. NCITW is a dope intro, and as stated ITT already, the album run from Paris to New Day is incredible
Jan 6, 2016 @Koolo I think it would clutter things if we did a thread per album...I like having it all organized in one place. We could give it its own sxn but that seem excessive. btw @Besky @Bleed @apslim @Michael Myers @Bunk @Koolo your vote won't be counted if you don't write a blurb about the album. Doesn't have to be long, just a few sentences. Just tryina rustle up some discussion along with the ratings.
Jan 6, 2016 Just so ya know if you want your vote to count you gotta write a blurb. Not tryina be a d-ck about this I just want this topic to be more than people writing a number and bouncing yadiggg
Jan 6, 2016 7 Solid project but would have expected more from these two. Jay's verse on New Day is great, Kanye coming in on Primetime was awesome as well. Murder To Excellence is probably the most important track on the whole album, one of my favorite as well. Nonetheless, not a bad song on WTT. Sunglasses and advil, last night was mad real
Jan 6, 2016 So, with Jay's last album being below his standards, but with some great songs (BP3) and Kanye's being one of the best rap albums ever made, I was excited, yet sceptical about this album. Mostly excited, because almost every collab they did before was at least great. And we also had Jay's verse on So Apalled and The Joy.. but also Monster. When HAM dropped, my expectations got a little lower because I wasn't a big fan of it initially. Then we got Otis, which I loved. It was so great that the album didn't leak days or weeks before like most do (if I remember correctly) and the first time I listened to it I was so happy that there were so many different sounds on it. From a more 'trap souding' HAM, to a club b-----r NIP, to a more calm RZA beat on New Day, the production was perfect. Both Kanye and Jay had great verses, but with a few 'solo songs' like Why I Love You/Welcome to the Jungle, for me Jay stole the show when it comes to rapping. The production made it sound more like a Kanye album though. The only songs I didn't really like were Lift Off and Made In America. I wasn't a big fan of the chorus of the latter and while Lift Off isn't really bad, it's pointless. Why have a very short Kanye verse and Jay just mumbling a few words? If they both had proper verses I would probably have this as one of my favourites; Beyonce did a great job on this. They both touched emotional and serious topics, but also explained to us why they named the album Watch The Throne. 8.5/10 @BigCountry
Jan 6, 2016 Solid project, however, I expected more Kanye production and better jay lyrics. Should had more (better) guests too, and it's not that diverse. 7.5 @BigCountry there it is....
Jan 6, 2016 @BigCountry WTT: 7.5 Kanye and Jay combine for memorable bars and are gifted with amazing production throughout but the overlaying vanity of this project makes it seem less inspired than many of their solo projects. Songs like NIP, Otis, Gotta Have It, New Day, Murder to Excelence and NCitW, as well as the bonus tracks, make this album highly replayable but some of the other songs feel either rushed or unnecessary (i.e. Lift Off and That's my b----).
Jan 6, 2016 It's been a very long time since I've listened to it but I'd probably go with about a 7, it was good for what it was.
