Jun 17, 2016 6.5/10 While MKL is a very cohesive effort, I can't find a lot of songs on this album that I actually enjoy. The main problem I have with this album is the production. Dj mustard is WOAT. This album is a testament to the fact that we are living in hip hop poverty...imo
Jun 17, 2016 7 Never once thought YG or these beats were exceptional. Nothing feels livid, genuine or captivating (except My n-----). Feels like YG's Made In China version of The Chronic. Edit: I like some songs more looking back, raised from a 6 to a 7
Jun 17, 2016 8/10. Very bohesive album, Mustard and YG's bhemistry is undeniable. Mustard is pretty much the star of the show with that west-coast/jerk sounding combination, but YG is on point for the most part too. Obviously YG isn't exactly a lyricist extraordinaire but who really cares when the whole album is bangers front to back?
Jun 17, 2016 8.5/10 I like most of the songs on there. I really like the production too. It was a very different album at the time it dropped. Nothing else sounded like it
Jun 17, 2016 8.5/10. West Boast Blassic. One of the best albums of 2014 and it might be #2 only behind PiƱata.
Jun 17, 2016 8/10 this album is a little overrated but its still great, YG showed more mic presence than most newschool rappers but allowing mustard to produce the whole album was a bad idea, sounded like one long song.
Jun 17, 2016 7/10 When I first heard this album, I was surprised. I didn't expect it to be so good. Some great highlights on here for me and a few tracks I still listen to on the regular. I want to rate it higher but I just don't have the same desire to revisit this project as a whole as I do with other great projects. And wishing I participated more in this. I usually try to listen to the albums again before posting here but I haven't had the time lately. Pissed off that I missed Shadow of a Doubt. It was my favorite project of 2015.
Jun 18, 2016 9/10 album- the production does get irritating after a lot of listens but YG more than makes up for it
Jun 18, 2016 I mean, this goes beyond a critical evaluation of music. Mustard's strain of ratchet was the biggest thing in southern ca for a half-decade and mkl is the most fully realized version of it. Calling it "poverty" or whatever is laughably ignorant.
