Opposing infrastructure repair/construction is such a bizarre view to me no matter what side of the aisle you're on. Not just from the Republican senators but the article said an estimated 28% of people don’t support the bill…I feel like those must the people who just don’t support any type of government spending no matter what it is. But everyone uses some combination of roads, highways, buses, trains, bike lanes, sidewalks, etc. How do they think their food and other commodities get to the town wal-mart?

Trump came out against the bipartisan bill recently so a lot of the opposition is probably Trump-loyalists sticking with him. But yeah, in such a hyperpartisan era, the minority party is going to make almost any big bill difficult to pass. There would be more bipartisan bills if there was no filibuster!! *cough* joe manchin *cough*

It passed 69-30 in a 50-50 Senate, which is rare for big spending bills. Trump's influence is starting to decline, especially without a social media presence.

Of course, Republicans are trying not to do anything that would make Trump supporters furious, but a moderate infrastructure bill isn't likely to push anyone's buttons.

This shows how incompetent Trump is. Trump promised infrastructure, yet couldn't deliver it even when his own party controlled congress. Yet Biden was able to pass it in a 50-50 senate.

Trump would just call random weeks "Infrastructure Week" then watch Foxnews and play golf.

I work with a bunch of Trump Cultists and they are all happy about this bill passing.

I was talking more so in terms of public opinion/Republican voters opposing the bill. A good chunk of those Republican senators that voted for the bill, voted for it because they knew it was going to pass anyways so they figured might as well jump on board & be able to reap some of the praises of the bill. That’s why we’d see more bipartisan bills if there was no filibuster. Democrats could pass whatever they’d want so you’d inevitably see some Republicans jump on board & vote for some bills anyways.

Yeah, I get it. I don’t think he was trying to push anything harmful but the idea of American soldiers doing “god’s work” is a bit…weird to say the least lol. But yeah, just gotta rip it off like a bandaid at this point. Once the deadline comes, hopefully we can focus on the infrastructure bills which I’m optimistic both will be able to be passed!

for sure ya i just think for the audience, grieving families etc, its at least understandable. but i agree, this sudden shift to 2002/foreign entanglements has been terrible, and rly a hypocritical distraction by the media from covid, domestic issues. we'll see.

Yeah, this whole Afghanistan political fall out has really demonstrated how difficult it is for presidents to end American conflicts over seas. The recent media frenzy has been brutal for Biden which Republicans are fueling & capitalizing on. His approval rating is declining & the immigration bills have pretty much been taken out of the spotlight. It’s a big political hit to take for an issue that voters didn’t really care about prior to recent events.
