Feb 12, 2021 Why are you comparing me to a professional comedian? Even Dave Chappelle misses every now and then.
Feb 12, 2021 I'm not comparing you to a professional comedian—you asked why we can't laugh at trans jokes and I was saying that the subject matter of the jokes wasn't the issue, the issue was that the jokes in this thread are bad.
Feb 12, 2021 Nah bro, I honestly want to know what the joke here is. Explain it to me. You seem like a good dude, but I'd just like to point out something to you. Do you ever think that marginalised people tend to laugh at themselves or that they joke about their own communities because it's a coping mechanism? It's certainly easier to do that to de-escalate situations instead of pulling someone up for their casual bigotry or whichever thing that is being weaponised against them. That s--- is energy sapping and tiring.
Feb 12, 2021 We're having a civilised discourse right now on this topic and you're flaking out? Nah, these convos need to be had my guy
Feb 13, 2021 Oh btw, all the banner changes that had Dr Dre as the pic was changed by me so you can stop attacking JMG for that. Ban me idgaf, don't wanna use a trans loving eminem forum anyway. Way too niche and fucken whack for me boys
Feb 13, 2021 I was talking to some people privately about this stuff but I'm just gonna edit my convos into a single post here as well: You don't have to explicitly call someone a "fa----" or a "tranny" for the general attitude toward the LGBTQ community here to be hateful. In fact, that's really what the the vast majority of bigotry/racism/whatever you wanna call it is—the otherism is so engrained in people that it comes out implicitly all the time. I read, write, and edit English writing and communication for a living, and this kind of thing does matter and contribute to attitudes and the way people understand things. The thread shouldn't have had anything to do trans people in the first place because it was a joke tweet that didn't try to say anything about gender or trans issues, it was just a ridiculous photoshop—but the discourse around trans people here is so negative in general that people responded in the same way that they would if it was abut an actual trans person, saying stuff like "mental illness." Using the slang term "fruity" is homophobic no matter how you use it. The "fingers in the booty a--- b----" Amber Rose/Kanye thing is definitely a funny instance in general, but in this context it was a response to kanye making the rap game "fruity," which was in response to a thread that became transphobic in literally the first reply. And the thing is: it's definitely a weird picture! His entire point was likely to make people feel uncomfortable (and he did a great job). If the responses were just commenting that the picture was weird it would have been fine—but the context of the thread was that he's gross or weird for being trans. What you're saying is inherently transphobic even if you don't mean it to be. If Lil Nas X was actually trans and actually transitioned into a woman, Lil Nas X would most likely prefer to be called "she" rather than "he." So by saying "his man t-ts are weird" you would not be respecting the fact that Lil Nas X has transitioned into a woman by calling her (in this hypothetical case) a man and calling her weird. Like I said, the concept of being transgender is definitely hard to wrap your head around and definitely feels "weird" when you don't know much about it, but at this point in my life I would never use the term "weird" to refer to anything that has to do with being trans, because the implication there is negative and unaccepting. I don't expect every single person who comes to this forum to understand trans issues because it's something that only came to the forefront of conversation/public consciousness in the past 10 years. I didn't always understand, and I'm more than willing to have these conversations with people because I remember a time when I didn't get it. It wasn't something I knew much about until my roommate came out as trans to me around 10 years ago. This instance has nothing to do with being soft—I laugh my a--- off at quote unquote "offensive" comedy such as South Park and Dave Chappelle like most people here. But the difference is that South Park and Chappelle usually come from a POV of understanding their targets and poking fun at their intricacies and idiosyncrasies. My issue with the "jokes" here is that they don't seem to come from a place of understanding or acceptance, they seem come from a place of otherism and unwillingness to learn about the subject or even do the bare minimum to treat trans people like human beings. Like The World Health Organization removed being transgender from the list of mental illnesses (as had many places before that), so calling it a mental illness is just disagreeing with medical science lol. Like I said man, I don't expect everyone to fully understand this stuff at this point in time, but I would hope that people are willing to learn and listen and be respectful. When the punchline is "ha ha trans people exist" or "ha ha gay people exist" it's not only hacky but not even really a joke because there isn't a punchline. It's stuff that would come from a comedian that has s--- like this for their Netflix special cover:
Feb 13, 2021 @Donkey Kong Cuntry I agree with everything you wrote (didn't wanna quote because of length of the post). The thing is people will read this and still call you ' easily triggered', even though everything you said is just common decency that everyone should develop after a while being alive on this earth. I'm a big advocate for discussion with other people and maybe broaden your own horizon instead of just stubbornly clinging to the values your parents or environment growing up ingrained in you. My parents weren't the most progressive people on earth either, neither were my friends from school and I still managed to become pretty open minded. And I still don't see how not trashing trans people will lead to the normalisation of pedophilia or the 'pussyfication of our kids', like some people in this thread seem to believe.
