I’m going to go with Halo 3: ODST. I really enjoyed how different it played than the rest of the series. More of a slow pace, isolated levels, and probably the best soundtrack in a Halo game imo.
My personal favorite experience was ODST, but as far as pure gameplay mechanics I have to say 3. 2 was amazing but felt like it was the groundwork for 3, whereas 1 at least had this bit of retro gaming charm that still sets it apart from virtually any other shooter. Half those early halo ring levels feel like u could put banjo kazooie notes or Mario coins through the map and turn it into a traditional arcade game. Reach was fun (and better than I gave it credit for at release) but u could tell the team was running out of genuine fresh ideas to spice up the gameplay loop.
