Mar 21, 2015 Eminem has SSLP, MMLP, and The Eminem Show (and if you're like me you also liked Recovery/MMLP2) Nas has Illmatic, It was Written, Life is Good, Stillmatic, Hip Hop is Dead Jay Z has Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, The Blueprint trilogy, In My Lifetime and WTT etc. Kanye West has The College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and WTT Not a fan of Drake because he's a gay boy, but i cannot deny his popularity, you know his discography Pac and B.I.G. too And now Kendrick has 3 classic albums in Section.80, GKMC, & TPAB So what will it take for one day Kendrick Lamar to unanimously be declared the greatest rapper of all time? Just one more album at the same level of his previous 2, or will he need something more?
Mar 21, 2015 You forgot Pac. Most rappers call him GOAT. And I think Kenny is already in the discussion right now. Just some time needs to pass so that people an confidently say he is the GOAT. People need time, mainly so they feel they arent rushing it. Dont think about it too much. Just enjoy that WE get to witness Kendrick in his prime. Kendrick will be declared GOAT when enough time has passed.
Mar 21, 2015 Forgot to mention, Pac and Biggie were included, i just got tired of typing all that on my tablet lol
Mar 22, 2015 BIG's only got 2 albums under his belt, so I would never consider him GOAT. Not enough material. Had he lived to put out 5 albums, then we could put him in this convo
Mar 22, 2015 Kdot also has such a great backlog of songs that aren't "mainstream" like the ones from the ep, od, various other mixtapes etc. So if you take those into consideration I think he already is, but yeah just give it a few more years (and another album) and he'll be in every discussion. P.S. 808s and heartbreaks is awful plz take it out of the op, thank you.
Mar 22, 2015 The factors which I feel put the guys you've mentioned where they are when we have these kinds of discussions have to be: Jay's longevity (even though his discog has its duds, he's put out music at a level longer than almost anyone else with multiple classics sprinkled in there), Kanye's consistency (his discog speaks for itself. even if you don't like any of his albums, you have to accept at very least that they're all good if not classic), The impact of Eminem (when Eminem came into the genre, had huge impact & SSLP, MMLP, TES are all regarded to as classic albums. Kendrick has achieved that similar impact imo and the jury is still out on his 3). Big & Pac are up obviously up there, but that's more self explanatory. Pac's progression was crazy, especially with such a short lifespan/career. And Biggie probably had the best flow of all time Kendrick definitely already deserves to be put in the discussion, with 3 extremely solid albums (S.80 was amazing, GKMC being a classic, TPAB I'd say is too early to give that nod imo since I'm not fully into it yet) and then the KLEP & OD as well as the rest of his catalogue.. He's had an interesting progression but I think his most interesting work is to come in the future. Really hard to say what it would take to warrant him being in the discussion, but he's basically almost there. See where his next album goes and take it from there edit: Nas deserves to be in this discussion since it seems like mainstream rappers
Mar 22, 2015 TPAB is so overrated lol. People were calling it a classic 5mins after it was released. It's a good album but not the masterpiece people make it out to be. Lol @ Eminem Show being a all time great album too
Mar 22, 2015 All it takes is consistency. You can see he has the ability, he just meeds to keep delivering.
Mar 22, 2015 He's already in my personal top 5. But if he can give atleast another two solid albums in the next 5 years he should definitely be considered one of the best IMO.
Mar 22, 2015 s---, 2 more albums at the same level as GKMC/TPAB he's not just "one of the best" he probably is the best
Mar 22, 2015 If he can give two more albums like his previous albums then he will definitely be a GOAT but il be happy with just two more albums that are solid they don't necessarily half to be considered classic albums
Mar 22, 2015 what an offensively dumb opinion to hold. in biggie's brief career, he made songs that continue to be some of the most influential ever in rap, that are picked apart and repurposed as lyrics, flows, concepts. he has more classic records under his belt than most people with ten albums, and on an ability level, he's CLEARLY in the top five ever.
