Mar 23, 2015Just before anyone asks how does this video corresponds with the song, I thought let me share my understanding.
The song is placed at the point where Cole enters Hollywood and has seemingly made it. That's why he is seen as a house ni**a. He is higher than those on the fields (rappers still struggling) but is still under the control of the white folks (the evils of the industry). At this point in the album we see Cole doubting whether he wants to actually be here, and whether all those things that he wanted are real (ties in with No Role Models). This can be seen by Cole deciding to help take a stand against the white folk, atleast those who oppress him.
Have always been a fan of Coles videos since he's gone in this direction, this could have easily been a typical (and still fire) club video. But doing these kind of vids give the songs a new dimension.

I just finished the video, I love this s--- even tho it has nothing to do with the song at all.
s--- was like Django Unchained in 3 minutes.
He had a bit of comedy, a bit of romance, a bit of action, and a plot all in 3 minutes.boyz n the suburbs, 2014 Forever Lives JCN, Rowney and 11 others like this. -

I'm dying at this GOMD music video, Cole's acting is hillarious. This short movie videos gotta stop, record some normal s--- that fits the mood of the song and move on to the next. This is forced as it can be.Groovy Tony, Bojack, eddie and 8 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

This video = #KendrickColeCollabAlbumConfirmed
Bare with me while i spit my jack ball.
So going back to Born Sinner/GKMC, i think its reasonable to say born sinner was an attempt at being a concept while GKMC was more direct it was what it was(although i get it was a story too, i know)
So this time around cole went gkmc route, while kdot went bs route except his album is goat.
These 2 dudes been talking and listening to Pac, hence Z's in coles song titles, and kdot well obviously the interview on mortal man.
These dudes somewhat rapped about the same s--- on FHD and TPAB. Cole dropped this video that coulda just been kdot video for king kunta or so.
Dawg they been talking about the same s--- just different. They will collab within 1.5 years and drop it, we fixing to get the GAOAT.them2eazyboyz, Equis, Archie96X and 5 others like this. -

real talk though i saw this comment on reddit: "Wow it's amazing how Cole tied in history with his contemporary music. Hollywood Cole = House Negro, but just because he's up there doesnt mean he has left his people. He just has more resources now to help his people. Amazing...." Felt like i was watching some 12 years a slave recap video.
The only reason why Cole decided to go with this type of video is the sample or should i say the song he sampled. That only makes sense.
Felt like gomd video should've gone in a whole different direction, but who im i to b---- about the video. Cole doing his thing -

The slave concept could've been done a lil better though. His stories are too straight forward when he does these kind of videos imo, they're always predictable 'cause the videos have one simple narrative. This video could've been dope if he told more than one story in this kind of setting and gave his character a lil more depth, especially since every verse on GOMD tells a different side to the story.Rowney, GKBS, Fire Squad and 2 others like this. -

GOMD is a parody of club songs though... just saying, keep that in mind. Even if he filmed a video set in the club, the video would still have to take a left turn at some point for the message behind GOMD to not lose its integrity.them2eazyboyz, Equis, johnny waverock and 2 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I think the video fits but is a little forced. I know the last verse plays well into it but the rest seems weird. I was dying with Cole held up the Black power fist. and they wanted to f--- him up...
