Obviously the song will switch up keep the listener entertained. But I get it you made your point.

If it feels unfulfilling then yeah

an example I sometimes think of is The King of Limbs, that ending stretch is incredible but it feels a gem or two away from being truly satisfying

actually the king of limbs would be better if you cut most of the A-side and just made an EP lol

Nah, TKOL would be better if they shoved a song or two between Morning Mr. Magpie and Feral imo, for better spacing.

I don't really agree with this. A long track doesn't have to be like that, the theme might change/evolve, it may have different melodies or beat switches, or different riffs etc. Ofc a 30' track is rare, but 15'-20' songs can be more captivating and less repetitive than many EP's of the same duration. Half an hour of good music is half an hour of good music man; I'd rather spend these minutes with 2 Burial songs than with the new Earl album.

how is it aimless when it has a overarching narrative that includes a character arc that comes full circle by the end? How is it aimless with tracks like "u" and "i" coexisting on the same album.

or "wesley's theory" and "The Blacker The Berry?"

or "for free" and "for sale?"

im having trouble understand literally everything you have to say about this album lol

I saw it but it's not the same with what I'm saying. Would you read one good 450 pages book, or 3 books with 150+70+230 pages that are bad?

Again, if I have 30', I'd spend with something good, doesn't matter if it's one song or ten. That's my point.

We are talking about two different things. I'm not talking about the quality of the music or material.

The duration is irrelevant. I'm talking about the way you digest the music or material. You're not always going to have time to listen to it all at once.

i just said i'm not debating the boring a--- kendrick record with you right now. think i'm wrong, fine--my point in my last post was that those two criticisms don't contradict each other, and i'm right about that.

You're not going to finish a 30 min song every time you play it.

and, well, they contradict each other in this case, because the topic was kendrick's "boring a--- album.," and that's what my post was trying to show.

if you wanna hide behind not liking it enough to properly defend yourself, feel free. I'll continue to point out anything else that seems like bs :emoji_thumbsup:

at this point i've written over like 50k words for the blog for free already, not that it matters. i think @Mike Tyson has a great site here. i think it's a great resume builder. i don't think I'm worth that much too begin with

beyond all that, don't know why someone who's been through the same process before, and only recently seen tangible success for his efforts, would take a condescending approach

this kendrick album must really be f---ing with u m8

yeah David compensated me for IOS as well..that's probably why he couldnt sustain the site too long lol

but, anyways, I'm currently in school for a Neuroscience degree. And I'm working at Level Up, a start up in Boston. although something related to creative writing is what I want to do in the long run, all I care about right now is strengthening my credentials.

I think you're being dishonest by saying you only ever wrote for free as "favors." As far as I was aware, most people start out this way.

But what do I know, maybe your background in the arts helped you get a better start than me.

But I'm 20. I'm not about to act like I deserve pay (even though I I think I do for a lot of these more in depth pieces).

Still have no idea where your comment is coming from -- and it's hard to look at it as anything other than condescending. Or delusional lol. Maybe you didn't go through this process, and I was wrong in assuming so, but you've written 1,000s of words on EMINEM for f---s sake, all for free lol

I'm doing the same when it comes to this forum...and as far as the blog is required, I'd rather help Hasman get this bigger than focus on marginal pay for myself by pitching my work elsewhere.

    :khaled2:

(but hey, if Jeff ever opens up spots for interns again my resume should be sitting in his inbox :hov2:)

I still don't understand why you say this. X minutes of music are X minutes of music man, if it's good and/or if I like it, why wouldn't I listen to the whole song/album/whatever if I have these X minutes to spare?

Yeah I understand what you're saying, what I said was in response to this "Whether it's good or not, you're asking listeners to sit through a 30 minute with the same theme, beat, etc" which suggested that quality was irrelevant, then you told me to check out your book example which was different from what I said, that's why we got confused I think.
