Apr 1, 2015 I never thought about this until now, I've always loved Relapse because it was the first Eminem album I bought..... but listening to Encore again (which was my least fave Eminem album) I've realized I didn't fully understand it. This is my interpretation of Encore now: Encore was a fascinating portrayal of him spiraling into a rapid descent fueled by drug abuse. You can only listen as he slowly but surely loses himself. What truly hooks you in is the blatant self-awareness he portrays. He is fully aware of what's happening to him but just as aware that he can't do anything about it. It's like a musical Shakespearean tragedy. You're seeing him lose everything that made him the artist you were a fan of in the first place and I appreciate it. It's a journey you know is only going to end badly but still can't allow yourself to turn away from. Wondering what you guys think. tbh if I had to rank Eminem's albums now, it would be something like this: - The Eminem Show - The Marshall Mathers LP - The Marshall Mathers LP 2 - Recovery - Encore - Relapse - The Slim Shady LP (extremely unpopular opinion )
Apr 1, 2015 Exactly, there are so many stand-out tracks on Encore that Relapse didn't have enough of. I understand both of the albums now and can see that Relapse wasn't as good
Apr 1, 2015 You asked the forum, I'm on the forum... Why do I still bother with these threads? Ugh... *leaves*
Apr 1, 2015 Yup. Encore had the classics Relapse did not. Replace the goofy/joke songs on Encore with the bonus tracks and you'd have a pretty d--- good album.
Apr 1, 2015 Anyways, Recovery's the worst of them all imo or at least the hardest to listen to. This thread's also a great example of why we need to keep the Em section, these kind of threads get repeated at least 2-3 times a year. It'd definitely make it a lot harder to sort through if they were mixed in with other music threads.
Apr 1, 2015 Hardest one for me to listen to, poppy production, awful singing, cringe worthy punch lines and random yelling. It might be a 'better' album quality wise but it's the last of those 3 I'd want to listen to for the reasons I stated. It hurts my ears..
Apr 1, 2015 yeah it's all about personal preference. and I was literally about to post the same thing about the Em section.
Apr 1, 2015 that song would've been GOAT without that r-----ed accent. as a matter of fact, the whole album would've been
