Oct 21, 2021 A woman has died and a man injured after actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a New Mexico film set. Police in the US state said Mr Baldwin discharged the weapon during filming for the 19th Century western Rust on Thursday. The woman, 42, was taken to hospital but died of her injuries. The man was receiving emergency care. Detectives are investigating the incident at Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location. A trade union confirmed to Variety magazine that the woman had been working as director of photography. The International Cinematographer's Guild said her death was "devastating news" and "a terrible loss". The woman has been named as 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins, who was working as director of photography. The man being treated is Joel Souza, 48, the film's director. Oct 22, 2021 Ok, so I done a bit of research and it appears the gun was real but should've been loaded with blanks but wasn't. However, that doesn't answer my second question; why was a aiming at a producer? And also, 2 people were injured. Pretty sure 2 people wouldn't have been injured from the same bullet. So why fire twice if the first bullet has clearly caused damage?

Oct 22, 2021 They always use real guns on movie sets, or at least most of the time. They are loaded with blanks; or bullets with no tips. On very rare occasions, fragments from those blanks can “chip off” and fire out of the barrel as if it were a bullet. I am not sure if those fragments take a linear path once fired, so that’s possibly how a crew member was hit, and another injured. The propmaster on this film is doomed.
