    I'd give Narsh's ranking of those 4 B6 reviews (including his own) a 7.6

Reading these reviews have honestly helped me appreciate Thugger more. I'm getting a lot more out of his music.
Also, I'm very likeminded when it comes to scoring an album. More so because of the people who worship scores.
Aggregate scoring like RT is the most reasonable to me. Scoring that reflects enjoyment rather than ambiguous quantization.

Because the publication itself doesn't push individual writers as the selling point, they, understandably, push their brand and their image. You go to pitchfork for a "pitchfork review" (and bring with you whatever stigma that dredges up). I don't go to a pitchfork review seeking out a specific writer.

Publications like POW seem to do a better job at that (as far as highlighting individual writers voices etc goes)

I dont think anyone sayings its impossible to use your eyes and differentiate writers, but when you write for a publication as big as pitchfork, your work will come off as an extension of that site first and foremost to casual readers. if that makes sense

@Koolo i don't think scores are always terrible. they're a good marketing ploy. people like them. but they also become the be-all, end-all to people who don't want to read the actual criticism. when i have the latitude to not attach them to reviews, that's what i do.

but if you're asking me what score i would give it, it would be the in the low- to mid-8 range. 8.3 sounds right.

would you like me to pm you the review or nah

    --

@Narsh i wouldn't be mad at people saying me, drake, or meaghan had the best review. she and i hit most of the same points.

@TimmyT i think each of birdman's verses is great, and as i said in the last two paragraphs of this review, i think his one on "constantly hating" in particular adds to the song by being the counterpoint to thug's flow.

I don't like to think about art as though it were art.

Can you quantify it for me?

While you're at it, could you give me the step-by-step methodology Young Thug uses to create his songs?

I'm not gonna lie and pretend I don't like looking at album scores. I like stats. :dno:

However, as someone who writes reviews, it's pretty disappointing when people look at your score and then decide if they're going to read it, rather than the other way around. Whether I agree or disagree with a score, I like to see a person's thought process behind said score. Unfortunately, a large portion of readers just want an easily digestible stat that they can use to either accredit their opinion or discredit the publication depending on the situation (ie, "TPAB is good because P4K gave it a 9.3" vs "P4K is s--- because they gave B6 an 8.4").

Pitchfork's review of Barter 6 is WAY better written than their review of TPAB, even though TPAB got a higher score.

People like scores, because it doesn't require them to think for themselves. They skip to the bottom without reading and base everything off of a number that holds no universality with in the criticism community, music or film.
