Apr 27, 2015 No Country For Old Men is my 4th favorite film of all time, so it's hard to dethrone it. I love how the film is mostly all about Tommy Lee Jones without staying too much on him
Apr 27, 2015 I actually watched it yesterday before making the poll. Any thoughts on Tommy's closing monologue about God never coming into his life? The Cohens love the idea of fate and luck in a religious sense (A Serious Man). Seems like Anton could be an old testament God like figure and he never runs into Tommy's character. Just a wild thought.
Apr 27, 2015 I love that he didn't need to attack/k--- him in that scene for it to be as stupidly tense as it was. I was terrified for the shop owner. I remember watching it for the first time. What a GOAT scene.
Apr 27, 2015 It could be seen that way but i really interpret different, here's a very brief summary of what i think: The Film is about Bell not being able to comprehend modern times and most of all, he is scared of it, he tries to confront his fears (Scene where Bell goes to the crime Scene) but we eventually learn he's not willing to take these risks anymore. The First dream i take it as him not being able to fulfill his responsabilities and possibly being a let down to his dad, the Second could be about hope, his father, no matter what, will be waiting for him whenever he arrives (To an afterlie??), so it doesn't matter if he doesn't rush to get to him (that's way he retired, he felt he could die eventually if he kept working). I was so amazed at this film after i saw it i ran to buy the book and read it in two days. The Coen Brothers did an amazing Job adapting this
Apr 27, 2015 There Will Be Blood is my pick, but my respect for No Country has grown quite a bit in the past year or so. It really is such an excellent film that it's kind of hard to deny it. But yeah TWBB is easily in my top 10. Honestly I think they're close enough it'd be splitting hairs. I used to think I overrated Basterds, but every time I watch it I become more and more convinced it's Tarantino's masterpiece. How is the novel? I meant to find a copy but never actually got around to purchasing one.
Apr 27, 2015 That post was actually only meant for you I'm glad you found it hahah I really wanna re watch IB again though
Apr 27, 2015 Like @Old_Parr I too have always taken it as a dream of hope (i.e. knowing his father would be up ahead with the fire amidst the dark and cold). However, the film poignantly doesn't end on the detailing of the dream, but on the line, "And then I woke up", arguably calling into question hope's very validity.
Apr 27, 2015 It's great, i always recomend it, however, the film is a very faithful adaptation so dont expect to see a lot of changes, just a few details, specially in the scene i mentioned earlier where Bell goes to the crime scene. This is one of those rare ocassions where the film is better than the book. Not by much tho
Apr 27, 2015 The Bourne Ultimatum, Ratatouille(people always forget the animated films), Before The Devil Knows You're Dead and Gone Baby Gone are up there as well. 2007 was really really good.
Apr 27, 2015 Actually just watched both The Bourne Ultimatum and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead for the first time in the last two weeks. Bourne is good, BTDKYD is GREAT. Just now discovering Sidney Lumet and I've been blown away by everything I've seen so far. Dude is extremely underrated.
