Apr 30, 2015 I think you touch on my general criticism of his post-Jackie Brown output. IB felt more playful, less resting on their laurels than the other films -- but at this point he can splurge stories based off his massive knowledge of pop culture like its nobodys business to me, the ranking is: 1. Pulp Fiction 2-4. Reservoir Dogs, IB, Jackie Brown (maybe in that order) 5. Django 6. k--- Bills
Apr 30, 2015 yeah when tarantino gets voicey in a way that doesn't serve the movie it tends to be both a little juvenile and a little juvenile in ways he's been before. @Swizz and @captain awesome are both right. i think basterds and pulp fiction are easily the top two, with rd definitely third. from there, i could go in any order. jackie brown should be two movies, but i like it a lot.
Apr 30, 2015 jackie brown was my least favorite tarantino film ive seen, and the most forgettable. none of those statements are meant to fault jackie brown. just my taste i guess. i dont know how anyone could be as dismissive of the k--- bills as @captain awesome doe
Apr 30, 2015 see, i LOVE jackie brown for all the reasons people gravitate toward k--- bill. i love the "real world" criminal world he explores in his first 3 90s films. its funny. he took an extended break from working not unlike eminem, and rly reemerged as a diff, more commercial filmmaker with the k--- bills. thats when the dialogue imo rly became pronounced QT. like, youre supposed to admire and be attracted to the bride and her sexpot ninja firneds.... but they all sound like f---ing tarantino... its all so broad, like spielberg trying to do tarantino, or something. initially, i loveddd the "real world" universe taratnino established (vs the movie movie universe of k--- bills): http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/17/the-intricate-expansive-universe-of-quentin-tarantino He hasn't rly explored that in awhile... I like the concept of the Vega brothers and Alabama existing in the same sphere, and might even be able to see a flick like From Dusk Til Dawn now and again. But since k--- Bill, it's almost all been Movie Movie output from him.
Apr 30, 2015 i dont think one has to discredit the other though. i 100% get the point about redundancy though. like, i usually think a filmography as short as his works in his favor (and it does in a lot of ways), but the idea of retreading what hes already mastered does become more prevalent/easier to notice i need to rewatch IB and Jackie Brown. But nothing will ever alter how genuinely entertaining i find films like pulp fiction or the k--- bills
May 7, 2015 This feels like a return to Reservoir Dogs given what I've read of the screenplay. I'm excited that he's scaling down his exuberance, though afraid he's rehashing old ideas. Though I guess his entire niche is rehashing old ideas anyway.
