Apr 26, 2015 The battle for the best picture from 2007. From Paul Thomas Anderson and the Cohen Brothers respectively. Daniel Plainview and Anton Chigurh are memorable and twisted characters. Which is the superior film?
Apr 26, 2015 It's one of my favorites. Tarantino says in this interview it's the reason he stepped it up with Inglorious Basterds. The Master is a competitive second for my favorite PTA though. Gets better every time I watch it.
Apr 26, 2015 Man this is a hard decision..I'd have to give it to there will be blood on this particular day
Apr 26, 2015 Gonna get crucified for this but i saw There Will Be Blood years ago and although it was good, i didn't find it great. I just found the style a little weird if i remember correctly (I don't remember very well). Definitely should watch it again soon though. No Country For Old Men is one of my favourite films ever.
Apr 26, 2015 Somebody could easily find it boring. It's really not a film for a casual viewer. I mean the first 20 minutes go by without a word being spoken. For me, there is no greater reward than diving into something you don't quite get and finally understanding it. The Master, for instance, was a complete enigma for me the first time I watched it. Took me multiple viewings to really grasp and love it like I do.
Apr 26, 2015 Hunger did that as well though but obviously the tension was there because of the context. I don't remember the first 20 minutes of TWBB but I'm pretty sure it didn't have that. I mean I wouldn't call myself a "casual viewer" per se but I'm not a film buff either. I really do need to watch some more films soon.
Apr 26, 2015 Didn't mean to speculate. Just thought I'd encourage a second watch. TWBB was a freakin' popcorn flick compared to Hunger for me lol. I mean I liked Hunger but it was so d--- joyless. Love McQueen though.
Apr 26, 2015 I've had TWBB on my HDD for, like, two years and still haven't gotten around to watching it.
Apr 26, 2015 TWBB > IB tbh I find it hard to rate the master...I feel like it's objectively almost as great as TWBB, but I think I personally prefer the latter. But when I rewatch The Master it's so enjoyable that I find myself question that Phoenix and Hoffman are such powerful actors, even though Day-Lewis is probably the single greatest character actor of all time
Apr 26, 2015 Of all time? I mean I think he's great but there are some resumes like Bogart, Brando, von Sydow, Streep, Hepburn I haven't explored enough to make the call. Definitely the best of his time though. Hoffman and Phoenix probably my second and third picks lol.
Apr 26, 2015 Completely love both, but No Country for Old Men's grave existential reckoning has always resonated with me slightly more
Apr 27, 2015 Neither are the best movie of 2007, though No Country For Old Men is better than There Will Be Blood.
Apr 27, 2015 They are both fantastic movies. I would have to go with TWBB however. it is quite a spectacle. On the subject of Seymour Hoffman and the master, I consider PSH my favorite actor and IMO the greatest actor of all time. Obviously many will disagree but just watching Capote and they way he captures that persona was incredible. Comparing classics like these is tough.
