It without a doubt undoubtedly is lackluster in the lyrics department. At the time when it dropped it felt stronger because of the moment (and due to relapse being so s---), now it is just meh.

i'm not talking about eminem's process in making this song or anything about his addiction.

its becoming apparent that you've never really experienced ego death, this song is powerful period. Imagine watching this live with thousands of people all around you singing the lyrics and s---, or imagine going through some s--- that was so crazy that you can appreciate tracks like 'not afraid'.

I've been through too much s--- to enjoy simple lame sing-a-longs. There is much better deeper music out there that makes me feel much better (in regards to my past) than these simple badly executed "anthemy" type songs

i get what you're saying, but this is possible for any song that a group of people find a deep, transcendent, connection with.

its not really a useful way to approach judging music objectively, is it?

like if we broke apart the song, we can probably agree that the hook is too straightforward, the lyrics have unnecessarily lowbrow punchlines etc but none of that needs to stop the song from being as important to you or the millions of people that have a special place in their heart for it

objectively, yeah there's mad s-----y punchlines, a basic simple beat, low quality writing,etc.

but if you happen to stumble upon this s--- randomly coming down from shrooms, or while peaking on acid, or while becoming everything and then being launched into the incomprehensible, this track will make you feel a certain kinda way

Kendrick makes it it's amazing


Em makes it it's bad


Just the way the world works. This forum has some intelligent reasonable people but the amount of f---s that wanna hate everything em does far outweighs them.
Its a good song, 90 percent of the world thinks so. The other 10 percent will hate everything em does. The only thing that drags this song down for me is the overplay it got on the radio

How is it overrated? Relapse marked the return of Slim Shady and Not Afraid marked the return of Eminem. It was a monumental record and the first single to the classic that is Recovery. Top 10 song of all time considering what Eminem had just gone through. His delivery in itself was a thing of beauty, his hook and the bridge before the third verse are some of the most soulful vocals I've ever heard.
