I have to say bar Polo G,A Boogie,Future & Don Toliver
Lil Baby's album is awful . Kendrick very boring. Joey Badass's album was ok.
Songs are often too short & many albums I have listened to are like playlists.

I find myself listening to older music mostly.
I have become out of the loop though in the last year so some albums I may have missed

Just wondering in general what are your thought on hip hop in 2022?

I agree. The major artist right now (well, at least what I think)

Lil baby, uzi, migos, kendrick, 21 savage, Carty... not a fan at all.

I do like YG, JID, Future , Polo G and some others though. But yeah its hit or miss. I do think its always like that

remember we had Jay Z,Eminem,Kanye,Wayne,T.I,Nas all releasing albums most year's. Young Thug's 2014-2019 run too. Those were the days
Drake had some good albums too up until 2013.

not to offend yall guys but y’all sound old as h---.
Yall reached the phase that you can’t like the new s--- cause yall old now like our parents. I remember when i listened to Carter 3 my parents told me to cut this bs its not real music.
Now every oldhead sucking wayne off its funny. Open up spotify and browse some playlists yall find something new and listen with open mind. Rap is not math it doesn’t have a formula. Its evolved, so much nice music. So quit the oldhead s---

Never thought it'd happen, but I'm at a point in my life where idk anybody (maybe 1-2 each year) on the XXL Freshmen covers :mjcry:

Obviously I'll still listen to anything from the usual GOATs like Kanye, Future, Travis, Young Thug, Uzi, French Montana, NAV, etc. and most recently I've been enjoying Quavo & Takeoff's project.

I'll give Polo G, Pink Sweat$, Rod Wave - whatever that generation is - a click whenever I see something new, too, but it's rarely ever my go-to.

Yea like I'd say I'm only familiar with like 25% of these songs/artists (Cash In, Cash Out might be my favorite song of the year, tbh.)
50% it's like "oh I've heard of them" - people like NoCap & Cochise.
25% noooo f---ing idea lol (Mo Kartii????????????????????)

Tbh I'm much more familiar with Jenn Carter than Mo Karti, only heard the latter on features.

I think you'd like NoCap and Cochise. You should check Cochise's album from this year, he's like the florida carti. If you use Spotify I can send you a playlist I made from stuff I liked this year.

Streaming has ruined so many mainstream artists, gotta go deeper to find the good stuff!

It's a mixed bunch. And quite frankly, with that amount of new music there is nowadays there's just gotta be something for someone.

I love the old music but I'll forever be checking for new stuff.

Nhale and Doggystyleeee do a great job of blending new and old.

I don’t think Kendrick belongs in that modern artist conversation anymore

Major label debut GKMC came out in 2012. So it’s been a decade

for perspective, was Eminem still a modern artist in 2009? Or snoop in 03? Rihanna in 2016?

when do we axe Kendrick from the modern conversation? Maybe I’m wrong but where’s the cutoff? He’s def not “new school” anymore. Neither is J Cole

Nah bro you are right same is for Drake, Cole, ASAP
maybe its also the fact that there so many new artists that you cant keep up with everything thats coming out
Back in 2011 i got into all those artists through radio, pitchfork or forums like Kanyetothe now it’s different

I f--- with a lot of rappers who came up between 2010-2013; Future, Thug, Kendrick, Uzi, 21, etc, but that’s about as modern as I get honestly. Feel like I’m getting old because I don’t know anyone who came up within the last few years and I don’t like what I have heard.

I thought this year has been pretty good so far, but now that I think of it all my favourite albums this year are from artists who came out pre 2015

I'm an album guy but streaming services ruined rap albums imo. Most new rappers don't give a f--- about putting a good album out, they make 20+ album songs purely to achieve streaming numbers. Lil Baby is great example. Meant to be one of the best rappers in the game, dropping trash over bloated albums. This what happens when it's all about the money and being a good artists is less important. I think in the long run it's a bad strategy. Only so long you can stay in the game dropping trash before they forgot about you.
