    It's a combination of both, it's not black and white. Mental illness doesn't excuse his actions but it provides some context for them.

    I know multiple people who were 100% healthy mentally/atheists/left wing/completely cool with gay people. Then they had a bad drug trip (molly in one case, acid in the other) and it brought out latent bipolar/schizophrenia and they all of a sudden became hyper-religious/right wing/hated lgbtq people. It's a real thing that happens, it can change how your brain works. There's a reason he will be silent for months and then all of a sudden be frantically posting crazy s--- and doing insane interviews — cuz it's a cycle of depressive lows and manic highs.

    It's not just right wing pundits who took advantage of him either, it's music/fashion industry people (including people who aren't rightwing) who sat and watched his mental health deteriorate and didn't care as long as it still made them money. His manic episodes kept him in the news and brought attention to the album drops (at least the 20% of the time when they actually came out).

    I think he was inching toward some of these views, but mental illness, industry yes-men, and encouragement from pundits exacerbated them.

    Terrible timing to be agreeing with him, but he wasn't lying about all of these outlets still referring to him as "Kanye West" or "the rapper". NY Times was gracious enough to throw "designer" on there, I guess.

    Kanye being crazy is boring by now but the amount of people around I've seen applauding him for speaking 'truth to power' is genuinely disturbing.

    I think he's only pissed at the people five levels above Drake, but he's not careful/smart/etc. [or it's all intentional] enough to articulate that without including the entire group.
    Facts, but I do still think he has a point...unfortunately, after the way he voiced his frustrations about it, they'll all read as "Anti-Semite Ye" for the foreseeable future.

    As anti-Kanye as I am, even I find it odd that they decide to release this information about Kanye's admiration of Hitler now. Why not a few years ago?

    I wouldn't be surprised if they were true, but just reports without specific names or sources make it hard to verify.

    I really hate the narrative that Kanye is mentally ill and right-wing pundits are taking advantage of him. This is Kanye's own doing; he made these decisions for himself willingly.

    Also, poor mental health is not the cause of bigotry. There are many bipolar people who are not bigoted. And there are people without bipolar who are bigoted.
