Man sleep paralysis is some scary s---, I have experienced it a few times back when I had a really awful sleep schedule. Like you're frozen and panicking, thankfully that hasn't happened in years but it's a strong reminder to make sure you rest well.

Lucid Dreaming is awesome, never did figure out how it happens but like @SHUDEYE said you are just going in and out of the same dream like on some "would you like to save your progress?" video game s---.

man i think we have a thread for this or i remember discussing it here before
nah sleep paralysis is a natural occurrence. your body paralyzes itself during the deep sleep cycle so you don't flail while dreaming and accidentally hurt yourself. majority of the time this paralysis wears off slowly and you should wake up feeling at worst a little groggy for a short period. Sometimes though, your body can kinda bug out and you'll wake up while your body is still in dream mode. It's basically dreaming, but you're 100% awake and aware and you can't move. That's why sleep paralysis is so terrifying to people, because they can experience dreams (good or bad) with their awake, conscious mind so they perceive whatever they are seeing as "real"

I've had something similar to that.. I had a dream where I walked outside in pouring rain, and knew I was dreaming..and teleported myself back into my bed..lol

then I woke up feeling like it was real; also another occurence is when I felt like I was flying around the room, and flew back into my body..and I woke up. Unless that was an outer body experience.. :/

I've had it twice - both times when I was working the graveyard shift somewhere and for one of my last shifts it was just me so I literally just grabbed couch pillows, threw them on the ground and slept for my whole shift.

Because I was sleeping in such a well lit room and I couldn't find the switch for all the lights I lied face down and put my jacket over my head for darkness. Perhaps because I was sleeping in such a weird position and in such weird circumstances it triggered it, I don't know. It would have been a very weak sleep too. I just remember waking up face down paralyzed thinking people were walking around me. It happened twice in that sleep. I wasn't scared though because I knew what it was and found it kind of cool to be honest.

I've had it happen a handful of times. First time bugged me out. It was my last night my freshman year of college and my roommate already moved out of our dorm. I watched Mothman Prophecies which is supposed to be based on true story in WV and I was going to WVU. So I go to sleep and the next morning I wake up and open my eyes but I can't move and had this weird feeling. It looked like there was someone else in the room and I felt something brushing my skin. It last what felt like a few minutes but I think it was probably like 30 seconds.

After I researched it and realized what it was it wasn't as scary. Had it happen another time on vacation in DR. Same thing, woke up and couldn't move and it looked like something was in the room coming near me. I was pretty hungover so I'm guessing dehydration could have been my cause from being in the sun and drinking for days straight, but I was calm since I knew it wouldn't last long.

Yessir, one of the worst things to go through. I quit drinking a while back and it pretty much went away though. I'm sure it affects people differently for different reasons, good luck

I know you can suppress sleep paralysis if you sleep face down, psychologically speaking it makes you feel more secure as opposed to lying face forward.

Great thread btw, hoping to see some interesting stories and what not

I've had lucid dreaming before sort of. Like, I notice when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and I'm still half asleep I can sort of intentionally take myself back to the dream I had and sort of control it.

Anyone have any sleep paralysis storys they would like to share? It can be the most horrifying thing a person can experience.

One time I had it and I just seen this creepy old lady peeking through my door watching me, it was creepy af.
I'm sure that's nothing compared to some other peoples experiences...

What you're experiencing is definitely sleep paralysis / night terrors.
What's most common with mine is i'll wake up in the middle of the night feeling terrified, i'm awake, but i'll see things that aren't there.
The most common is shadow figures/people, faces, and spiders.
To this day I have a few that still really stick out to me, one of them being a guy crouching in the corner of my room staring at me, and another being a young girl floating over me above my bed staring down.
They usually only last for 5-10 seconds after waking up, and then fade away.

As a person who's had night terrors their entire life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror), I thought this could be an interesting thread.
Anyone who's had any experiences with vivid dreams, night terrors, sleep paralysis etc, share your experiences here.
The idea came from a crazy dream I had the other night, it was an extremely vivid dream of the world seemingly coming to an end.
I was in a high rise condo looking onto a city, and there were explosions happening everywhere, mushroom clouds, fires etc.
While this was going on, there was a giant tornado forming, and it was so big that I instinctively knew it would destroy the entire city.
I then noticed a little kid, probably 13 years old, walking on the ledge of the building right outside the window I was looking out.
He walked out right in front of me, slowly turned to me and looked me in the eyes, he lifted his hand to wave at me and then just let him self drop backwards (It seemed like I was probably 30 or so floors up).
I have the image of him staring at me stuck in my head still, really messed up.
Anyone have any interesting/scary stories to share?
