Most of you probably weren't on message boards when this happened, but I'm curious if anyone else remembers the reactions when Encore first leaked, cuz I do and they were f---in great. I wasn't signed up on RB yet I don't think but I was lurking it and I was on another board too.

People were in denial, the theory some came up with is that this is a fake album Em wanted to leak to fool people, the real album we'd get on release day. This theory was of course ridiculous but some people actually went along with it. Some were even acting as if this is Em's 'f--- you' to the idea of albums always leaking early and claiming Em was smart for doing this. Some said these were throwaway songs Em made quickly just to fool people. Let's also keep in mind this was after TES and 8 mile so people had crazy high expectations so to see everyone's reactions was well....hilarious to say the least even though we were all very disappointed.

Also if I remember right, hardly anybody liked it other than 'like toy soldiers' and a couple other songs. Like toy soldiers was seen as the unanimous best song if I remember right.

Wish I could remember more details but that's all that's coming to mind right now, hopefully some of you guys remember this too.

I wish it never leaked, I bet if we go back in time and stop it from leaking it would be a classic and eminem kept on touring and doing drugs and eventually died of an overdose so we had to go back in time and leak the album but we accidently lose the album and we had to record a new one and it all works out fine except some minor things have changed in the present.

I was on Rap Basement (it was still D12 World) at the time and I remember everything you said. It was shocking because this was the first time we even heard a single bad song from Em, let alone a full bad album. I remember I still had dial-up internet at the time and I had to leave my computer on overnight to let it download lol.

Eminem would have never fallen off if that lil c---- nathan didnt leak SFTL. He woulda released a good version of encore then OD'd and gone down as top 3 of all time next to big and pac lol.

Never thought I'd see the day that encore becomes OVER rated but it seems to be getting pretty close to that.

I still think it sucks tbh.

My Fault is f---ing atrocious. Plus I'm pretty sure he completely stole the entire shrooms concept from Xzibit, who included a song called Shroomz on his 1998 sophomore album 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (which came out like 6 or 7 months before SSLP?).

Random side note, Xzibit's first 3 albums are incredible and way too often slept on. Not many rappers had a 3 album run to start their careers quite as powerful, or as high quality, as Xzibit did. There are a s--- ton of classics across those first 3 albums.

When you throw in how messed up he was the album is actually good Hahaha. I've been so high off just weed I was barely able to be coherent this n----- recorded a album while destroyed on pills!

In all reality I'm in the party that thinks encore would've been amazing had those few songs not leaked. Then I think his career is viewed way different at this point. I think he either dies or doesn't record more work having 4 fantastic albums under his belt

Nah, the signs were already there with D12 World coming out earlier that year. Plus he had some horrible features in 2003-2004 prior to Encore's release.

It was a joke of an album when it came out, and it still is today. It doesn't matter that it had some good songs on there. You can't consider an album to be even average with songs like Puke, Rain Man, Big Weenie, Just Lose It, My 1st Single, and a--- Like That on it. It sucks that some of the album leaked way early, but it doesn't excuse those s-----y songs he chose to replace them with.

I remember this well. I was on a cruise during the time it leaked, but when I got home I remember immediately seeing these theories. I listened to the album and can remember thinking "WTF?!?!" at songs like "Big Weenie". But yeah I remember people thinking that all too well.

Just one time someone should actually do something like that, as in do something outlandish that will get people speculating theories - then follow up with actual content relating to the theory. For instance, imagine if Kendrick really did have a "NATION." album. Maybe one day the conspiracy gangs will actually be right or close to right about something haha

Encore was kind of my first Eminem album*. I loved it at the time. I was new to rap, and the production was excellent. It was only months later when I had gone through through his past albums that I realised anything I liked about Encore had been much better before. It's still fascinating to me as the reflection of his state of mind at the time.

I can totally understand why people believed that the leak was a fake. I can't imagine hearing that after 3 fantastic albums.

*I actually had MMLP on tape when I was a kid, but didn't bother with Eminem again until Encore. An odd way to get back into rap I know.

I was on D12World and remember all those theories lol.

As bad as Eminem has been since 09, Encore is still the worst of his career. Utter embarrassment to music.

I seriously can't believe some people are rating Encore better now though. Maybe it's because they haven't revisited the album, so they remember only the good songs, but SERIOUSLY... If you really think Encore is not that bad, go f---ing listen to it again... It's on another level of awful.
