May 26, 2015 Pretty interesting @Kon i thought that the "s---" encore songs were just there to replace leaks? you got any idea on that? And while we're kinda on the topic, a guy i know IRL is pretty knowledgeable on his hip-hop, he sent me a link that was like archived forum posts from ages ago, like, dial-up days. Forgot the details of the site/what it was called. But can specifically remember there were people posting and making threads stating that "illmatic was average at best" and that Nas isn't that good a rapper and wont blow up etc. It was weird that majority of the people there were like "its nothing special" only to have it be argued as the best/essential hip hop album of all time for the next 10-20 years.
May 26, 2015 I think what happened was some of the songs meant for encore leaked on that 'straight from the lab EP' or whatever it was called, so yeah he had to record some new songs for Encore, most if not all of which ended up sucking. I can't remember what songs they were exactly though.
May 26, 2015 i was on SOHH they hype ws big because of the run he had at the time but he seemed to f----- up to even care about his music and just messed about looking abcut. Toy Soldiers and Mockingbird where the stand out tracks right away.Oh and Mosh. We got straight for the lab ep as well before which was supposed to be part of encore so a lot of it was rushed
May 26, 2015 You mean when illmatic first came out? internet wasnt even about never mind hiphop forums. When it dropped in the streets everyone knew he was gonna be big and what the album was. There wasnt no internet hiphop fuckery back then it was more real

May 26, 2015 I hated the first single "Just Lose it" ( still do ) It was a let down compare to TES but it was still good in my opinion it is those 5 tracks ( My 1st single, Rain man, big weenie, Just lose it, a--- like that ) that made the album weak And his "tired" flow.

May 26, 2015 It was a joke of an album when it came out, and it still is today. It doesn't matter that it had some good songs on there. You can't consider an album to be even average with songs like Puke, Rain Man, Big Weenie, Just Lose It, My 1st Single, and a--- Like That on it. It sucks that some of the album leaked way early, but it doesn't excuse those s-----y songs he chose to replace them with.
May 26, 2015 Nah, the signs were already there with D12 World coming out earlier that year. Plus he had some horrible features in 2003-2004 prior to Encore's release.
