Oct 9, 2023 Drake def cooked him, but it's so clear that for whatever reason some of the lukewarm reception is getting under his skin. He looks bad/petty for responding when what Budden said wasn't even that mean or controversial. And then he made another ref to it on an instagram post like dude come on man. It's almost as pathetic as when he slid in Fantano's DMs with an angry rant But yeah I 100% agreed with Budden aside from insinuating Drake shouldn't work with younger rappers. The rest about wanting a more mature drake was on point.
Oct 9, 2023 im not sure he made any good points. He said Drake needed to “grow up” in his music & then pointed to *checks notes* J. Cole as a prime example lol. I’m sorry but I nor does anyone else want to hear Drake rapping about tax returns or some s--- lol.
Oct 9, 2023 It's more that he's been making the same album the past few one's and the subject matter is teenager cringe s---. He banged Rihanna like a decade ago and is clearly still hung up on her that he needs to diss her for no reason other than jealousy. He also sublims XXXtentacion on almost every album. Guy's been dead a while. It's embarrassing to listen to tbh.
Oct 9, 2023 I don't think anyone is asking Drake to be billy woods — just to, like, not be a 36 year old naming an album "Her Loss" and like @Worm said rap about women like a teenager would. I'm not even a fan of Cole but I thought Cole was actually a decent analogue cuz it felt like he hit a turning point after that dumbass KOD album and took some criticism to heart. His music generally feels less preachy and has made music I would listen to on purpose for the first time since his mixtapes. I'm not an expert on Cole but it also feels like he's had less cringe bars the past four years or so. He made changes without completely sacrificing who he is as an artist. I will say that Yachty was a bad example for Joe to name drop tho considering that Yachty's made huge strides musically over the past year in an attempt to mature his own sound, regardless of whether or not Joe liked it or think he succeeded. Did he do it on this album too? If so what song, I've only heard it all the way thru once.
Oct 9, 2023 I just really don’t care about the age of artists & their subject matter. If the music sounds good, it sounds good. Push & Freddie Gibbs are 40-something year olds rapping about drugs they pushed over two decades ago & we all love it. If Drake wants to make music about side chicks & sub Kanye for next 15 years fine, just make it good.
