Just curious to hear everyone's opinions of driving after smoking marijuana. A lot of the studies that report on this kinda thing are pointless cuz they'll say something like '6.8% of people in accidents tested positive for marijuana' but as most people know you can test positive for weed for a long time after your last time smoking.

To me it really depends on the person, I think some people who smoke on a regular basis can feel and react the same way to things since they don't get that high and could drive fine. Some just feel more relaxed and happy when they get high, and their highs don't last for more than 30-60 mins. Others will have their coordination all messed up and react slower to things and not be in the right state of mind. If you're not used to smoking, you're more likely to have problems I think. But it could be dangerous for regular smokers too depending on how they react to being high.

So what's your opinion of it?

I'm too used to being high for it to effect me like that but agreed that someone who doesn't smoke regularly probably shouldnt be smoking and driving

i used to drive and smoke a lot before work and school so i feel like i'm a better drive than when i'm 100% sober. i feel so relaxed and it helps my horrible road rage.

When I'm driving high, I think I'm much more focused and possibly a better driver.

Now whether this is actually true idk

I'm paranoid af so I usually drive a lot better and careful. I'll barely go over the speed limit and use my blinker every turn. I basically become a drivers ed teacher if I'm the passenger too lol so I guess it's a good thing for me...

But like people have been saying, it's probably not the best idea for people who recently started smoking. I basically cruise every time I smoke at college so I'm very used to it.

Agree with all of you so far.

By the way is there any legit way for cops to test if you've been smoking recently? I know they can have you take a blood test but for regular users that can stay in there for a few days too. Obviously if your fingers smell or if they actually see you smoking or something then you may be in trouble, but other wise is there really anything they can do besides a sobriety test? I'd never have trouble passing a sobriety test for weed lol.

Roll n bowl is what my friends and I used to call it when we'd drive around for a smoking session in high school by the way lol.

I try to be the fun/careless person in the group as much as possible.

I'm fine with people driving high, better than drink driving imo. At times, it has no effect on my driving. Other times I end up being really chill, so chill that I drop down 10km under the speed limit on the freeway without realising. I'm just enjoying the ride.
On occasion, with one road in particular, it will enhances my anxiousness with trying to cross the road. I get scared of the on coming traffic, I feel an invisible pressure because there are drivers behind me. I just want to give up, get out of the car and walk away.

A couple of years ago in Aus they brought in random roadside drug testing.

Didn't see you asked about cops testing @Kon

I have friends who moved to Colorado and say that the police have this cheek swab thing that they take to the inside of your cheek. It apparently shows them if you've smoked in the past 4 hours. They hand out OWI's for it all the time I guess.

s--- that's what worries me since I live in Washington where it's also legal and could see them doing this kinda thing. d--- I think that's one negative to weed being legal, the idea that they're gonna try to crack down on it to send a message or whatever.

*edit* I don't even stay high for 4 hours for f---'s sake lol.

I can honestly see why they do that though because smoking and driving definitely f---s with some people... Even if people like myself, who drive fine high, get pulled over and charged with an OWI I understand why. Might be a bad comparison but it's similar to how a person that can drink a 30 pack in a night, gets a slight buzz from like 6-7 beers and then gets pulled over and blows high enough for them to be considered drunk.

In Mass. it's basically impossible to get a DUI for weed unless you admit to it. Obviously cops will try and trick you into it but if you know the laws, even smelling weed smoke blatantly in the car isn't probable cause for search in Mass.

Cheek swab is sketchy, i feel like there's not even close to enough known about "marijuana impairment" for that kinda s--- to be happening.

Got too cross faded last night and hotboxed my car while me and my friend cruised and smoked a beezy. Didn't even smell this morning. I had him drive, but there's some scary f---in country backroads in Iowa that we were freaking out about.

depends on how high you are and if you can handle your weed. some people take two puffs and they're out.

Don't approve of people driving high, mostly because a few bad seeds that can't handle it ruin it for everyone. Like a few years ago a stoned driver was speeding and plunged head on into a group of cyclists, killing 8 of them.

I (shamefully) do, but it depends on where I'm at. I live in a rural area so it's not a huge deal. I couldn't imagine driving in the city though.
