TPAB isn't trash it's a good album. Kendrick can't make bad albums right now. But as a project it's a little forced. It doesn't come out as natural, it sounds try hard from the overdense flows, weird voices, to the unnecessary pac interview at the end. This album just doesn't flow and ebb like GKMC and is definitely worse.

FHD is on the other hand is the opposite of forced and Coles best project in years. Right now I'd put him over Kendrick.

Slightly forced? Maybe but the execution is pretty excellent throughout TPAB. People need to realize, that album wasn't meant to be another GKMC. It isn't supposed to play like GKMC. GKMC is without a doubt the more accessible project which is why I feel like people are coming to these harsh conclusions that TPAB is "trash" because their aren't many songs that you can kind of vibe out too. From a stand point of what Kendrick was trying to accomplish with the project, it's excellent though. Yeah, maybe the 2pac interview is slightly corny, some of the concepts may seem kind of "dumbed down" but nonetheless Kendrick was able to make it work.

The whole Kendrick has more classic albums discussion doesn't work to me. He has one classic album, GKMC. TPAB and S80 aren't classics even tho S80 is my fav Kendrick project. With that said I think Cole has the stronger discography out of the two imo.

An interesting topic is how much the fact that Cole being a producer plays into the 'artist' aspect. Its incredible to me that he can create a whole album nearly completley on his own.

At the same time I think Kendrick has a lot of diversity and none of his projects sound the same. Whilst TPAB has its flaws, I love and respect that Kendrick went that direction. All of his last three projects are a work of art and really put the emphasis back on crafting a whole
    body of work.

Both of them are near that number two spot of the new generation, but I'd give it Cole at this very moment.

@LondonSimba If you think Cole has the stronger discography how would rank their studio albums?

I would rank my personal favs like this:

    1. 2014FHD
    2. S80 / BS
    3. GKMC
    4. CW
    5. TPAB

I get that alot of people would be confused at some of those, I have no problem with people rankin GKMC as number one, as it is the only true classic out of all those albums. Add Coles two mixtapes which are arguably his strongest projects, I give Cole the edge. Regardless of my opinion both have a fantastic discography at this point, we are truly blessed.

Yeah I whole heartedly disagree with those rankings lol. I love Coles early mixtapes but I think all of his studio albums have been some what underwhelming/average. He needs to venture out more musically, just feel like he's getting way to repetitive. All 3 of Kendrick's studio albums are excellent.

Nah as I said those are my personal favs. I mentioned that gkmc is the only classic out of all of them, but those are the order of most enjoyable projects to me.

Yeah I understand that. I don't think Cole has a bad album, there are gems on each one, its jus compared to the rest of his discography I can see why you may have been underwhelmed. At the same time alot of people felt the same way with TPAB.

Can anyone tell us why you don't like TPAB? Do you actually care about what he says and what the songs are about in the album? Do you feel it lacks hit singles? Was he a bit weird in a few songs? :'(

If you listen to rap for its sonic appeal and how catchy it is, I thought it was great. There's a reason why critics rated it so high, I thought it executed well in all areas.

Critics rated it high because of the heavy jazz influence and over all leftfield-ness

People don't necessarily like it because it was too dense, heavy, and overworking its concepts (some of which are already overused anyway)

It's a great album, don't get me wrong, but Kendrick fans think they're on some other level of thinking by liking the album just because it doesn't have the mass appeal like FHD had

What about Cole, he sold more than Kendrick in the first week, with no hit or promotion.

The reality vs internet forums fictions I guess :wow5:

Not by much. Cole sold 371,000 first week, Kendrick sold 363,000 & that's with Kendrick's release completely getting f----- and iTunes having only the clean version album available and then they took off the album completely for a while but put it back up like a day later. Also, Cole didn't release any singles prior to his release which made his album kind of a mystery and made people anticipate it even more. Kendrick had released i & The Blacker the Berry prior to his album coming out which kind of turned people off from it a bit knowing the direction he was going in.
