Jun 5, 2024 Jpegmafia - All my Heroes are Cornballs I'm not waiting to Sunday/Monday for my review of this. I just can't listen to it any more. It's just noise. Abrasive, brash noise. And what's the deal with the constant conversations? It feels like a behind the scenes take on the creation of an album. When he gets going there's some good flows and lyrics but I just can't get past the disjointed and confused production. Not for me. 2/10.
Jun 5, 2024 I'm thinking if we get a release date for the eminem album maybe we could do eminem week? We all review the new album here @AOTWClub good idea? Or no
Jun 5, 2024 Since we're postponing whatever album is scheduled to review when the Eminem album drops anyways, then yeah we might as well do it to keep things going
Jun 6, 2024 I was gonna list my favorite songs from the album but I honestly like all of them equally right now. If I had to pick the best track though it would probably be the title track or Grimy Waifu. Speaking of titles, I love the titles of the songs of this album. This album is filled with personality from the song titles to the rap delivery to the lyrics to the spoken skits to the beats to the frequent instrumental switch ups. It really is some ADHD a--- music. I like how JPEGMAFIA can go from loud and intense to chill and vibey on the same song or even combine all of those elements at times. I do like the production on this album, but I much prefer his production on his tape with Danny Brown. It is interesting to see how he has progressed though. I think you guys said this is one of his more accessible albums so maybe I’d enjoy his other albums more. I like this album, I just don’t LOVE it. I enjoy what’s here, but I don’t feel myself getting attached to any of the songs like I did on his tape with Danny Brown. Maybe listening to the newer music first f----- with my perception too much. It’s still a good album though and maybe I will enjoy it more months from now. I think maybe it’s just not ADHD enough for me when compared to the newer stuff I’ve heard. One thing about JPEGMAFIA though is he has personality and that’s something a lot of rappers these days are lacking so I really commend him for that. OVERALL RATING: 7/10 @AOTWClub
Jun 6, 2024 I agree. I don’t know if it’s the equipment used but the production on STH has stuck with me more than Peggy’s solo albums (I still enjoy Veteran and LP!). I’m still hoping Vol 2 comes out sometime this year hopefully
Jun 7, 2024 What the h--- am I listening to lmaooo So far I can't even decide if I love it or hate it. It's 100% something different than usual so thats nice
Jun 7, 2024 @Justin Trudeau I was checking the final reviews for s--- and I saw my review ain't listed for the Cilvia Demo average score, was it still counted tho?
Jun 7, 2024 Honestly, that's pretty much how I felt when I first listened to it. It was my first introduction to anything experimental rap-wise, besides Yeezus. Seeing it was trending on HipHopHeads, I gave it a spin, and it eventually grew on me due to how atmospheric and melodic it was, while being very different from anything I've listened to. It definitely took a bit of time though, I just kept gravitating back to it.
Jun 7, 2024 Standouts: "Kenan Vs. Kel", "Grimy Waifu", "Rap Grow Old & Die x No Child Left Behind", "All My Heroes Are Cornballs" Skips: Post Verified Freestyle, BasicBitchTearGas, DOTS FREESTYLE REMIX, BUTTERMILK JESUS TYPE BEAT Score: 5/10 Final Thoughts (Skit): I really thought this was gonna be some out there unpleasant weird bs but it wasn't, I actually had a very good time with this s--- ngl, the production is very good and most of the experimental s--- is well executed imo, some nice variety of sounds and moods, the standouts I'll definitely go back to but the rest I can't say for now @AOTWClub edit: sorry, forgot to tag the group earlier
Jun 7, 2024 Well f--- I potentially missed it, what was your score? I'll recalculate tomorrow. Won't have time tonight
