Mar 21, 2025 Breaking the rules for mixtape mania and making it POP OUT 16 times in a row just for this
Mar 21, 2025 My review will be the direct opposite of Mikey lol we do share some similar opinions though which is interesting, especially with tracklist length
Mar 21, 2025 Amazing OH MY GOD HE A GOON WOW I like it I think it makes the music feel even more unhinged Better than a 1
Mar 21, 2025 Playboi Carti - MUSIC REVIEW Not sure how long this review will be, I am just typing as I go while I watch this video for class lol Well well well, Carti finally dropped. 1,540 days between WLR and MUSIC, but was the wait worth it? My answer is...yes! Let's just hope we don't have to wait until June 1st of 2029 for the next album. Waiting for this album since December of 2023 has been a ride for sure, from singles exclusively on Instagram, to varied features (insane that there is a Camila x Carti track lol), and fit pics after fit pics, it built up hype effectively despite being a drawn out rollout. Would this album have done better if it had dropped this time last year off the hype of tracks like CARNIVAL and TYPE s---, maybe, but looking at the current sales projections and streams, I think Carti will be just fine. Onto the actual album though, off first listen I liked 27 out of 30 tracks, now it is 29 out of 30. The only miss for me is FINE s---, and even still I can admit the chorus is catchy. Carti showcases a bunch of different sounds here throughout 30 tracks (thank God, 30 tracks of the same sound would drive me insane even as a big Carti fan). Songs like RATHER LIE being on the same tracklist as songs OPM BABI, PHILLY, and LIKE WEEZY which all have different sounds provides reason to go through all 30 tracks. I truly believe there is something here for everybody! s---, even @Michael Myers took something from this project lol. However, even though me saving 29 songs from your 30 song is EXTREMELY impressive, considering long drawn out albums (that are not considered double albums) do not do that for me most of the time, 30 songs is wild and trimming down the tracklist could have boosted the score of the album for me. There are for sure some tracks that could have been cut, most notably TWIN TRIM and WE NEED ALL DA VIBES. Not bad songs by any means, but why do they make an appearance here? I know this is supposed to have a mixtape feel, and it succeeds at it, but with both of these appearing in the back half of the album, it just feels like boosting song count last minute. TRIN TWIM is just a short, solo Uzi song that is a b-----r, but feels odd on here. It is a hard a--- verse too, wish Carti hopped on it for it to appear on Uzi's next album. WE NEED ALL DA VIBES was cool, but it's just an old Thugger song that Carti hopped on (and for a short a--- verse too). I would have preferred they made a new song together. Trimming down some songs too could have also boosted the quality of them, and what comes to mind first is CHARGE DEM HOES A FEE. There is a lot of fat that could have been cut off this song. That part of the song where Future does some adlibs between the first and second chorus was not needed lol. Why not just do first verse, chorus, carti verse, chorus, trav verse, chorus? It is a more basic song structure, sure, but the song would be tighter as a result. Speaking of the Trav verse, while I like it, it feels too short for it to feel notable on the song. Travis is already on here 3 other times on better tracks, I would not be mad if I lost this verse. Towards the end of the tracklist too, there are some songs that could get taken out too, but I do not want to say which ones because it's looking like my favs on this album are changing day by day and some songs that I think could get cut might end up being in my top 10 by the end of next week lol. There def is a slight bloat issue on this album, but the fact I like almost 100% of the tracks, it doesn't knock the score significantly for me whereas if it was a bunch of mid, it would drag down the score. On the topic of features, I do feel like every feature did their part. There are a lot of repeated features, Kendrick 3 times, Travis 4, Future and Uzi both have 2 appearances, but they showed up and showed out. My feature highlights are Travis on WAKE UP F1LTHY and PHILLY, Skepta on TOXIC, Kendrick on GOOD CREDIT and BACKD00R, The Weeknd on RATHER LIE, and Uzi on JUMPIN. Uzi's verse on JUMPIN even feels overhated to me. Sure, it's a short a--- song and an older verse (you can tell due to references to PINK TAPE and Carti's scrapped album Narcissist), but I think that verse is still the best part of the song. While an older song, it still differs from WE NEED ALL DA VIBES due to it being clearly a Carti and Uzi song, whereas the Thugger track was originally Thug x Gunna. Carti has some great solo songs, LIKE WEEZY, I SEEEEEE YOU BABI BOI, DIS 1 GOT IT, EVIL J0RDAN, HBA, OLYMPIAN just to name a few favorites. He def did not get carried through this album! As expected as well, the production on this album is incredible, I liked every single beat and I am a sucker for great production, so I was all over this. Chefs kiss! Would be an insane instrumental album if Carti ever decided to drop all 30 instrumentals offically. Some additional negatives while I am thinking about it, CRUSH disappointed me. Not a bad song, I just thought it would be the big Travis collab on the album and I loved the snippet so so much, I think I just had too high of expectations for that particular track. I have seen people call it the Go2DaMoon of MUSIC, and I can see that. That track grew on me, so I would not be shocked if CRUSH worked its way up in my tracklist ranking. The (alleged) use of AI on RATHER LIE and FINE s--- is also disappointing. RATHER LIE is still a great song, but Carti's verses (allegedly) being AI hurts. The Weeknd and the fact that the verses are still good is why it still ends up around the mid point in my tracklist rating. Overall, MUSIC is still a great album in my eyes. Some spots here and there that knock down some points for me. I believe that is all I have to say about this album, I hope I didn't leave any thoughts out but I managed to type this for close to 40 minutes so I think I should stop while I am ahead lol. Mar 21, 2025 I really don't get the hate for Swamp Izzo on this, like older mixtapes where the DJ yells are basically just pasted over the song are annoying but on stuff like this / d--- / Call Me If You Get Lost where they're mixed well into the track itself is fire to me lol
Mar 21, 2025 I'm surprised to see that some have put more effort into a Playboi Carti review than any other album we've had over the past year. Think about your parents and grandparents. And that AC/DC t-shirt you got for christmas. That's how you thank them and their generation, by listening to this r----- music?
Mar 21, 2025 I’m actually one of those people who has a band’s merch despite not listening to them often. Obviously I’ve heard Pink Floyd songs but I have a hat with this symbol because it looks cool and barely listen to them lol
Mar 21, 2025 I thought it was pretty funny when I saw some people call this a woke LGBT logo. They were definitely trolling.
Mar 21, 2025 if my granny got me an AC/DC shirt for Christmas i would tell her no one wants to hear that gen x bs I'm a real rockstar like Carti
Mar 21, 2025 My ancestors are smiling at me cause I still listen to all their favorite r----- tunes from 1960-1990s
