Jul 12, 2024 I liked the album! I found a lot of the jokes pretty funny this time around even if they are a bit boomery
Jul 13, 2024 Americana - The Offspring I usually hate this style of music but I just listened to it while I played the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remakes for max enjoyment and it was a pretty fun listen with the game. I don’t think I’d listen to this on my own free time though, it’s not my style. It’s rating is a little lower for me personally just because it’s not my vibe and I don’t think I should be trying to rate things on what I think others who enjoy this style of music would rate it at, and instead rate at my personal enjoyment. I do not much too much to say though overall so to keep it short and sweet: 7/10 @Justin Trudeau
Jul 13, 2024 That Tony hawk remake is f---ing awesome, I should start playing it again. One time I created a park that was absolutely f-----, started as high as you could go and I just made floating rails and s--- and it took so long to finally get to the ground lol
Jul 13, 2024 I completely forgot about the americana album.. f---. I'll listen to that on a later time because I wanna keep up with this & this way (the review club) you'll get to hear all sorts of stuff. Probably way too late for the deadline but gonna listen to it somewhere next week. In the meantime, still letting TDOSS marinate, if someone pointed a gun at me for a rating I'd say 7.5 right now, but I prefer TBT ratings over general ratings tbh.
Jul 13, 2024 @Justin Trudeau since this is a new album, what about we all do track by track reviews instead of a quick blurb about TDOSS. Of course overal thoughts as well but I think an album is more than the collection of songs as a whole.
Jul 13, 2024 I may wait until later in the week to tally Americana, just because Eminems album sorta took a good chunk of time away from Americana Definitely think this is cool, whoever wants to do a track by track then overall that's cool. I'm gonna do that probably
Jul 13, 2024 Me too. Even if people dislike an album overall people can still praise certain songs. I miss that in most general reviews. Or ofcourse trash a song on good albums.
Jul 13, 2024 Standouts: Pretty Fly (for a White Guy), The Kids Aren't Alright, Why Don't You Get a Job?, She's Got Issues Skips: Feelings, Walla Walla, No Brakes Score: 7.5/10 Final Thoughts: I really liked this album. It's a blast from the late 90s punk rock scene with its catchy tracks, clever lyrics, and infectious melodies. The humor might feel a bit old-school, but the core themes and tunes keep it relevant and fun. The lyrics are sharp and often tongue-in-cheek, covering topics like suburban discontent, teenage angst, and societal satire. The production is polished yet still has that raw punk rock edge, making it something I'd imagine both newbies and die-hard fans can enjoy. @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
Jul 13, 2024 The Death of Slim Shady- Eminem @AOTWClub I've decided to start the week early, I'll tally The Offspring- Americana Thursday night to let late reviews trickle in since Eminem stole some of the albums thunder. Thursday night I will also be making a new album schedule for participating members only. Post your reviews now Lowkitz: 6.8/10 Justin Trudeau: 8.5/10 Gimp: 5/10 Wreckless: 6/10 Omar Little: 8/10 Michael Myers: 7.5/10 Ice cube: 8/10 Yeez: 7.5/10 Jankland: 8/10 RipperRoo: 8/10 Stepdad enjoyer: 8.5/10 Hargydon: 7/10 Evad: 7/10 Diggledogg69: 8.5/10 104.3/140 = 7.4
Jul 13, 2024 Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady I am super conflicted when it comes to this album because while I really do love it there’s glaring issues with its execution. I am gonna do a track by track review so that I can articulate how I feel about every song as I go. Renaissance - 8/10 Really good intro song, lot of nostalgia for that old voice and flow. I don’t think there’s anything crazy or special about the track to make me wanna listen to it outside of listening to the album front to back but it does it’s job well as a intro track, I do think something articulating that Slim is taking over would have done well for the story of the album. I also wish we could stop getting Joyner shout outs that guy stinks. Habits - 7/10 The first of many songs that love sonically but suffers from a recurring problem with the album, cringe bars about Gen Z, trans people, and PC police that sound like Tom MacDonald ghost wrote them for Em. The reason the score is so high even though I just complained about lyrics, the most important part of a lyrical rap song, is that most of the song isn’t like that. The flows and production are great but it is ultimately held back by these weird lines, which on repeat listens of TDOSS are even more grating because he mentions Jenner on almost every song so I am so tired of hearing them by the time I listen again. Overall a good song but the start of one of the albums biggest problems. Trouble - No Ranking (Skit) good skit, not much else to say Brand New Dance - 9/10 I will now dive into a tirade about why I enjoy this song that I don’t think anyone else has thought of. Brand New Dance is a 4 minute song (mostly) from 2004 that is solely about Christopher Reeves breaking is spine over an off-putting instrumental. I think most people just listened to this song and thought it was funny or whatever and moved on, but it kinda freaked me out a little bit to be honest. This song is from 2004 so there’s no way that any of this was made for commentary on todays youth or anything, but I think it works way better in 2024 than it would have 20 years ago. We live in a time where following trends and getting internet clout is the most important thing in the growing youths lives. Tik Tok, before it Vine, and even YouTube before that have given birth to alot of stupid, and sometimes dangerous trends that people will do for internet clout disregarding the safety of themselves and others around them. So when I listened to the song I was given this mental image of a huge trend where kids were setting up their phones and just breaking their spines in various waves over the song for internet likes. I have an over active imagination and I’m 100% sure that wasn’t the take away of the song but that’s how I interpreted it, and honestly I think viewing it in that light made me enjoy it more than I would have otherwise. Evil - 10/10 This is classic Em. Solid hook, no cringe bars about Gen Z PC police midget trans women trying to k--- him or whatever. Just a classic. All You Got - No Ranking Good skit, not much else to say. Lucifer - 8/10 I’d have to say review wise this song would be a cross between what I had to say about Habits and Evil, a great song, feels like classic Em, but with a few of those cringe bars that I complained about from Habits poking their head in again. Antichrist - 10/10 Feel the same way about this song as I do about Evil, the cringe bars are kept to a minimum, and the hook is infectious. Fuel - 10/10 Not much to say about this song other than it was just an amazing show from both rappers, definitely the b-----r of the album and there’s no competition. Road Rage - 4/10 Great hook and production, verses are dog s--- Tom Macdonald bars Eminem found under a dumpster at Arby’s. I mean Jesus Christ this song is just someone’s drunk republican uncle at dinner rambling about fat people and how he definitely would NOT have sex with a trans woman, and if you think he’s transphobic for thinking that, f--- you. No one ever on the planet would have expected Eminem to have sex with a trans women, and aside from some radicals on Twitter, no one would think you’re transphobic for that. As a side note since Road Rage is a Slim Shady song, and Eminem and Slim have different beliefs, does that mean Eminem would f--- a trans women and coddle fat people? Something to think about. Waste of a good beat and hook. Houdini - 8/10 Super fun single. Not much else to say. Breaking News - No Rating Another good skit Guilty Conscience 2 - 10/10 Should’ve been the end of the album. Wraps the concept up so well, has a bunch of funny lines from Slim, and reinforces that Eminem doesn’t believe in what he’s said for the last 40 minutes and is making fun of you, himself, and everyone else. Everything after this makes the album lesser inherently by existing after this point, as this is the perfect closing track for TDOSS. Head Honcho - 5/10 Ez Mil sucks. Ez Mil is on half of the song, and a good portion of Eminem’s verse is shouting out Ez Mil. f--- Ez Mil, should’ve been any other more deserving shady records artist (COUGH COUGH BOOGIE COUGH) instead. Sorry but he’s just super generic and I could find 20 of him in the comments of a FREE EMINEM TYPE BEAT YouTube video. Temporary - Not sure what to rate as this sounds like something written directly to his daughter, with no sort of themeing like Somebody Save Me Very personal song, I think Skylar sucks on it, and that it still doesn’t make sense on the concept album. I feel bad shi--ing on it or commenting on it at all since it’s something so personal but I’m gonna just say it doesn’t belong on this album. Bad One - 8/10 This song is good and fits with the theme of the album. Eminem talks about how he uses slim to say s--- he wouldn’t normally say, and I think it is sonically great. I would however have moved it up to before GC2 and still ended the album with GC2 Tobey - 7/10 Okay song I have no strong feelings about it one way or another other than it shouldn’t exist after GC2. Guess Who’s Back - No Rating I’m not giving it a rating because it’s a skit but it’s a s-----y skit. Somebody Save Me - 7/10 I initially didn’t like this song, and like the other songs post GC2, it again doesn’t belong here due to me feeling like it takes away from the concept part of a concept album but it’s a good song. Very similar to Castle/Arose but it stuck with the dark ending. I still can’t help but feel those songs did it better and that I’ve heard this before but that doesn’t take away from this being pretty good. Don’t care for Jelly Roll but he did an okay job. Overall - 9/10 if it ended with GC2, 6.8/10 since it didn’t. Last act of the album just held it back, I don’t feel good giving a concept album a high score when it fumbled the concept. I think maybe it should have been divided into Side A and B with 10-13 songs each between Slim and Em. I do love this album, there’s just a bunch of small problems that take away from it as a whole. This album has made me think about how even though I can give something criticism, and maybe even a lower score, doesn’t mean that whatever I’m criticizing can’t be one of my favorites. I would give MTBMB a better score on paper but I would place TDOSS above it in my rankings just because this album is a lot of fun and despite its flaws I do think it’s one of Eminem’s best. EDIT: Justin said something that made me realize I forgot to say somewhere in here that I didn’t have a big issue with what he was saying with the PC police gen z stuff, it was that he just kept making the same joke over and over again. There was so much more he could’ve made jokes about so it was kinda annoying to hear the same, not very clever jokes about Gen Z and the PC police be repeated. @Justin Trudeau
Jul 14, 2024 The Death of Slim Shady Review 1. RENAISSANCE- 7.5/10 I love the horror movie vibe of the intro and beat, em comes out firing. The not give a f---, sell a bit line is awesome. Wish it was longer though by about a minute. 2. HABITS- 8/10 Great song, white gold kills the chrous. The production is awesome and eminem sounds great on this song. The south park stuff is a nice touch with the theme of the album. 3. TROUBLE- 8/10 I wish this was longer, so much longer. 4. BRAND NEW DANCE- 9/10 Quick note my dad and I used to listen to encore all the time, my dad loved that album especially the goofy s---. I sent him this song Friday morning and he loved it. This song is just pure nostalgia so I love it. Eminem sounds great on weird beats like this. The grand maul seizure line is stuck in my head for some reason lol 5. EVIL- 9/10 The chrous is awesome, this sounds like prime eminem for the most part. The part where he picks up speed is really good on here. Doesn't overdo it. 6. ALL YOU GOT- 7/10 Skit still cool though, how many times you try to k--- me? 7. LUCIFER 9.5/10 I first heard this song back in March 2023 when I changed my name to lucifier. My cousin Paul got mad at me though, so I changed my name when the option became available . Anyways love the Alfred intro, the beat is awesome and eminem kills this song. In the trenches like the columbine shooters is a nice throwback to other lyrics he's made about it. The amber heard line is hilarious too! 8. ANTICHRIST- 9/10 Em keeps cooking, the chrous on this is awesome. I laughed that people were praising bizarre on here, his Amityville verse is WAY better. 9. FUEL- 9/10 JID kills it, eminem continues killing it. The Diddy s--- on this song is awesome wordplay. My first listen at this point I was like holy f--- this albums amazing. Wasn't expecting it to be this good at the halfway point. 10. ROAD RAGE- 6.5/10 A minor speed bump, I think the content is funny I just don't know that I love the song or even really like it. I probably would have left this off or went a different direction for this one. 11. HOUDINI- 8/10 Catchy and fun, still really enjoy listening to it. 12. BREAKING NEWS- 7/10 I actually watched the Detroit4 news reporter talking about em getting him to do this. Says he's been in eminems studio 4 times over the past few years doing stuff for him and was happy this one got used. 13. GUILTY CONSCIENCE 2- 8.5/10 Crazy back and forth between em and slim, I feel like having dre in this argument might have made it a 10. Would have been fun having slim throw some shade at dre for the song that went too far. Could have thrown some insults at dre like on the original and em being like dre made us or some s---. Still a good song. 14. HEAD HONCHO- 7/10 Ez Mil held his own in my opinion, didn't like the different language stuff though. Seemed kinda forced. Ems verse is good though. 15. TEMPORARY- 8.5/10 Skylar kills it, I love the home recordings, I love the idea of this song. It's a really sweet song and a nice little change of pace. I'm hoping if shady is really gone em becomes more vulnerable on his albums and opens up about more things in his career besides family stuff. 16. BAD ONE- 7.5/10 The Beat is awesome and white gold kills it again. I feel like this song is the safest song on the album, just feels like em can make songs like this in his sleep. 17. TOBEY- 5/10 I don't like babytron, he's a---. He actually f---ing sucks, kids these days will accept anything, I'm better than babytron. Big Sean's verse and ems verses are good, this song just doesn't do much for me and the music video sucks. 18. GUESS WHOSE BACK- 6/10 Ken wasn't as creative as he could have been, still a nice touch 19. SOMEBODY SAVE ME- 7.5/10 The slurring home recording at the start makes me sad, it's crazy to think someone I grew up idolizing was that f----- up at one point. I love jelly roll, he's got a great voice and was a big fan of "save me" when it came out. Ems sorta covered this topic already with the end of revival but I still love how open and vulnerable he is on songs like this. OVERALL RATING: 8.5/10 Really fun first listen and I've listened like 15 times now lol the one super underrated thing about this album is that every song bleeds into the other very impressively. Definitely hoping we get a side B or deluxe of sort because I do feel like for a 4.5 year hiatus it doesn't seem like a lot for some reason. @AOTWClub
Jul 14, 2024 the death of slim shady ........ Slightly better than most of the albums he's dropped since he fell off but still MID. The AI proved how much better he used to rap. After the first listen I can't make it more than 2 or 3 songs with out getting bored. 5/10 @Justin Trudeau
Jul 14, 2024 Hey guys, looks like I’m back right on time for TDOSS! I have a lot to say about this album, so I’m glad the longer reviews are the norm for this one. Also, obviously, I’m much more familiar with Em than I have been with the other artists we’ve reviewed, so i have a better grasp of what to talk about. It’s been odd not being as active on here! I feel like I dedicated so much time here since the album announcement, but I’ve barely been on since the album release. It’s fun to finally see what y’all think! I voted a 9 on the main thread for TDOSS but my view has changed since, I’ll give TDOSS some more listens and be back with a review likely on Tuesday. Stay blessed guys!
Jul 14, 2024 I can't tell why this album makes me sad in a way, it's weird, I like it but I'm so confused by it, this s--- fried my brain
Jul 14, 2024 Yeah gonna wait a couple of days too and do a TBT rating like @Justin Trudeau only listened to the album 3 times and a few random listens to some songs
