Sep 3, 2024 @AOTWClub Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That s--- Gold Favorite Tracks: Skinny, Dreamer, You, Glass House, Can't Break I've been meaning to check out this group for a very long time but never got around to it. From a production standpoint, I really appreciated this album. Tracks like "Dreamer" and "You" have catchy choruses and I particularly enjoyed the dark beat on "Your Glasshouse". The problem is, I struggle to connect with any of the subject matter. Especially when the focus is from a woman's perspective. At times it felt like they were going for a cheap imitation of "Brenda's Got a Baby" or ‘’Keep Ya Head Up’’. I prefer straightforward themes like money, clubs and chicken wings over serious subjects that come across as forced, hard to relate to and borderline cringe in the way they are executed. Despite those negative points, I still think the production on the album is strong, and the effort put into the work is evident. So overall, it was an enjoyable listen. Final score 7.3/10

Tom Macdonald, Logic, Witt Lowry (sorry Five) etc.. are all very cringeworthy. Mac Miller was one of the rare exceptions. And I guess you can say Paul Wall is another one with a style that feels authentic. But in general the vast majority of white rappers s---.

Sep 3, 2024 LIFTED or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground - Bright Eyes REVIEW Score: 5.5 Review: Honestly, when I heard the intro, I was like "f---, I'm gonna hate this album." Unfortunately, I'm not huge on this album. I didn't hate it though, but I don't love it. There are a couple songs I would come back to on this project though. The run from Method Acting (Track 2) to Bowl of Oranges (Track 6) was pretty strong, but after that it was hit or miss. When people were saying that his voice was weird, I didn't pay much mind to it. Weird voices are fun to me with music, I love vocal inflections from people like Carti, Thugger, Yeat, Teezo, etc. but I see what people mean when it comes to this project. Sometimes it sounded good, otherwise it just sounded bad. I can't be too mad at the project though, still took a handful of tracks away from it! I wish I saw the vision enough to give it a higher score. Perhaps it's a grower, I'll go back to it in some time and give it another shot. Sep 4, 2024 Atmosphere- When Life Gives You Lemons Review I don't know about this album, there was a few times I was like it's not too bad, then at other points I was like I f---ing hate these cornballs. I definitely agree with the macklemore esque reviews on here, but I also sorta appreciate the thought that's been put into the songs. It's very preachy at times though so I find it sorta annoying. I dunno it's just a strange album to me. I'm on my third listen through while I'm writing this and just realized this actually sounds like the Fort Minor album kinda, but a s-----y version of it. It's definitely not an album I want to listen to again though, I actually enjoy the production on a few of the songs though. Shoulda known beat is super fun, reminds me of an LL Cool J beat. I'm not gonna give it a super low review because I do appreciate the ideas in a way it's just not for me. Score: 5/10 @AOTWClub

Sep 5, 2024 Atmosphere - When Life Give You Lemons, You Pain That s--- Gold It's kinda surprising that aside from AMHAC, this is the most controversial pick here. Atmosphere has been on my radar for years, but I had never actually taken the time to check one of their albums out. The only expectations I really had were based on what the other club members had said. I guess this is an unpopular opinion but I thought this album was great. Before talking about Slug's lyrics, I just HAVE to mention Ant's production. These beats are legitimately incredible. They sound familiar to me, but I can't put my finger on it. Also, having Tom f---ing Waits on a rap album (even if he just plays guitar) is a very welcome surprise. Then... there's Slug. For the record, I've never listened to Fort Minor so I can't speak on any similarities. As for the Macklemore comparison... I just can't see it. I think Slug did a great job at creating stories that pack a punch (Yesterday is probably the best example). His voice fits perfectly with Ant' productions and some of the concepts/subject matter legit surprised me during my first listen (Me, The Waitress). I'm really surprised that this record has proved so divisive. I'll definitely check out more of their work ("God Loves Ugly" has been on my list for years, maybe it's time to actually listen to it) and I'm glad that @Gimp suggested it FAVORITES: Shoulda Known, You, Yesterday, Me, Can't Break, The Waitress Rating: 8.5/10 @AOTWClub
