Jun 9, 2015 My mom has told me before that she's fine with whoever I date, "as long as it's not a man." Parents want to be close with their kids. So I can't understand why they ever give their kids reasons like this to keep part of who they are from them. They don't want to know what their kids are really like? I'm not gay, but all I could think about was how crushing that would have been to hear if I were. My mom is a sweetheart. The last thing she'd ever want to do would be to hurt her kid. And yet she said that. And parents say s--- like that to their kids every day, forcing them into the closet and driving them to all sorts of dark places. Good for you coming out like that. I'm not sure I'd be able to come out to my mom. I'd be interested in knowing how things are with you and your mom once she's processed it.
