Jul 7, 2024 i don't think we were aligned in conversation. i said "69 god" sounds like a praise -- not that i somehow am misconstruing the fact that kendrick wasn't actually trying to praise drake on the track. and i was merely pointing out the 'why' to my thoughts on the line being a bad one. if we weren't aligned in what i was saying, then hopefully we are now. if we were aligned, then i'm confused -- you provided an alternate example of a line on the same track that you feel deserves criticism ("OVO - the other vaginal option") -- i don't understand why i deserve h--- for criticizing 1 line + offering my rationale, while in the same breath criticizing a different line? i'm allowed to criticize the guy -- he isn't perfect and neither was/is the song.

It basically just boils down to it being banter/joking around, which doesn't always make 100% logical/linguistic sense. Like for example why is being called a dickhead a bad thing? Calling someone a "freak" can be a compliment or a pejorative depending on the context. The meaning of words ebb and flow throughout history as the way we use certain words change. The word "gay" is an obvious example. if you look up the word "literally" in the dictionary now it has two meanings that are the complete opposite of each other (ie, something that is exactly 100% true vs something that isn't actually true used as an exaggeration) which doesn't make any logical sense but that's the way it is because that's the way people started using the word. 69 God instantly became slang/a meme/whatever you wanna call it. The masses assigned it meaning as a pejorative to make fun of Drake so it became a pejorative to make fun of Drake. "Freaky a--- Drizzy he a 69 god" has a ring to it and is fun to chant in a way that "OVO - the other vaginal option" isn't. It's clunky and awkward. I'm actually having a fun time talking about linguistics lol
