Think about it - Em has always played with the idea of killing the audience and then killing himself - it's what the original / base concept of 'Encore' is... he shoots the audience, then himself; (maybe why he even thought back to that album for this) So I think Side A n B are like him murdering the audinece, other rappers / everyone else... This is him 'killing himself/shady', and I think that was probably the metaphor in 'Encore' as after that album he said he murdered Shady. Not himself Side A n B: murdering everyone else Side C/TDoSS: murdering himself I reckon it even started as officially 'side c' (maybe why we heard murmurs at the time, and he's been working on this since 2021); but typically things don't have side c and d, so maybe it just evolved and he thought it should be a standalone concept.

Jul 16, 2024 It was p good fam. Side A one of his best modern put together albums, cohesive back to front - in sounds and in themes, it was just such a step up from Recovery, MMLP2, Kami & Revival. As an album. A consistent album. Then Side B... def has some of his lazier and stupidier writing, some stupid a--- puns, but... some very enjoyable songs. I find myself coming back to Side B more, even though I initially thought A is better; But B is just fun - Alfred's Theme, Tone Deaf, Book of Rhymes etc. But yeah I probably would have to put TDoSS above, just due to the quality of the rapping and production.
Jul 16, 2024 I agree Side B is fun, but TDOSS is WAY MORE fun. There are way too many duds on both sides of MTBMB to be considered one of his better albums, it has some really good highs tho
Jul 16, 2024 I don't mean when it was recorded. I mean in concept. I think he thought of the s--- as a sequel to side b / conclusion to music to be murdered by. Like I said he always has toyed with the concept of murdering everyone else then himself... which is literally what happens here if you look at Side A n B = him murdering everyone else... then C / TDoSS he murders himself. I would bet that's how he initially thought to go this direction, as a follow on from B.
Jul 17, 2024 "Side A" is my least fav Em record ("Revival" is second). Fwiw, I still forever fw both of those records tho (they have very high highs) "Side B" is top 5/6/7ish for me "TDOSS" is top 4/5/6/ish for me (I've only listened for 5 days tho so opinion is still early longevity-wise long-term) (Top 3 for me will always be SSLP/MMLP/TES, with Recovery at 4 [the closest TDOSS could get would be #4 by default imo cheah])
