Yeah I think Runaway is better tho tbh, white america's hook has worn off for me over time

Also, why not just put both tracklists side by side, id be down to do that lol. im pretty sure mbdtf will look like the better album

well when you have people claiming that the highs outweigh the lows and filler, what other way is there to compare 2 albums?

im not saying track by track ratings, just getting a better understanding of how each albums structured

dark fantasy is this tortured, indulgent, layered treatise on fame and race and how those two things intersect. the eminem show has some of that--white america, obviously--but the ideas are, for the most part, reduced down to pop-culture items that are really only insightful inasmuch as they speak to the trl audience of the time. people have got on narsh's back for borrowing my descriptor ("melodramatic"), but they shouldn't. it's obvious, it's pervasive, and it works to the album's detriment. how many times can you listen to cleaning out my closet without rolling your eyes or picturing eminem as a middle schooler? when the music stops? soldier? even sing for the moment? the production is middling at best. there are undeniably bad songs (say what you say, drips, business). this is painfully middle-of-the-road rap music. by contrast, dark fantasy is one of the most staggering albums of the last ~10 years.

been listening to TES for the first time --- err, i mean, again* -- and soldier has aged so much better than a lot of the album

salt in the wounds/assault n get sued/smell the lawsuit soon as i walk in the room >>>

you all get shotttt...till the fire inside expires at 30 >>>>

business is too gimmicky (and square dance too). White American is still obviously really great. Cleaning out my closet made me feel a lot different as a teen than now. still good, not as mindblowingly incredible as i used to think.

As I said in the post right below yours, I think Soldier holds up better than like, say, Cleaning out my closet.

Its just relentless anger but not as angsty as Cleaning out my closet or like The Way I am on MMLP. And I love the inflection he uses for the hook. A lot of whats aged on the album feels kinda clunky, while soldier actually doesnt in my opinion. and he sells the hook even though it should make me want to roll my eyes.

I guess im saying in some weird way he shows restraint or at least control over his anger...like on say goodbye to hollywood.


TES has a handful of undeniably great track tho -- Goodbye to hollywood, dads gone crazy, hailies song, white america, (soldier for me) etc.
