not at all. i fully understand/acknowledge the context in which the album came out. i get why the album exists. i understand, given those factors, why it was so commercially successful. none of those things make the work better. The Eminem Show doesn't exactly need a lot of unpacking.

The Eminem Show is my favorite album of all time but these results are embarrassing. MBDTF is better by a decent bit

regardless of whether or not you're critiquing the album in a vacuum, its flaws still remain -- dont they? the bad features, the filler/subpar tracks, clunky writing in spots, etc

ive never said the album was anything less than great, but my argument has been that SSLP/MMLP are probably better (and that its obviously not one of the best hip hop albums since 2002).

the song is terrible. i remember @M Solo making a thread about it on SL that pretty much summed up it all up

All of the Lights is great. Especially live. Gonna have to disagree with you @Soldier

no i agree, although ive always debated or not or prefer mmlp or tes. mmlp is the more seminal work... sslp is good i just dont like it as much as the other two

well, eminem isnt a particularly subtle artist. that said, ive always enjoyed the potency of his post WTC, bush criticisms a mere eight months after 9/11. people talk about the rising as the definitive album response to that tragedy, but i think theres an argument tes is actually more authentic

i agree, only to an extent. i think eminem is one of the greatest because of what he has done, and he is pretty much my favorite, but his music is increasingly disappointing. that phenomenal song reminded me of relapse.

I know that sounds like a reach but I don't remember too many albums (or movies) talking about it as explicit as tes did in May 2002. Anyway my point is the rising was recorded before 9/11 then repackaged as this mournful ode to a wounded city -- tes clearly was written in late 2001 and is historically one of the first things I remember out to tackle the subject matter head on

(25th hour stands out but that was released in the fall)

Just relistened to the first half of TES and the 3 song stretch of Square Dance, Soldier, and Say Goodbye To Hollywood holds up pretty d--- well. Not really getting the criticism that his music sounds dated, even though these topics are tied to a very specific time period...
