Rap is the new rock 'n roll. Rappers are the new rockstars, and Kanye is the biggest of all of them. Kanye is the number one rockstar on the planet.

Yes. Famous rappers today are the equivalent (in fame, adulation, opportunities) as rock n roll stars were in the 70's and 80's.
The disgust toward Kanye calling himself a rockstar mainly comes from suburban baby boomers who are disgruntled that their children are listening to different music than they are.yeezyyeezy, CODEiNE DEMON, Ordinary Joel and 3 others like this. -

No. He isn't and he knows it, he never made a single rocks song in his life.
What he means by screaming he's the biggest rock star is, like he explained in the BBC Zane Lowe interview, that rap is the pre dominant music culture right now.
The big rappers now will be remembered in 40 years like the big rockers from the 60-90 are remembered and how the big jazz artists from the 1st halve of the 20 th century are remebered.
So there are two messages, one, that rap is the new rock, two, that he's the biggest rapper.
I thought more people would understand this on a Kanye forum.Ordinary Joel, Narsh, Maximus and 1 other person like this. -

The term rockstar has evolved from its literal meaning. People get called rockstars all the time that don't perform rock. If you read @Narsh post it's the second definition that applies to Ye.Narsh, Ordinary Joel and Maximus like this. - Dec 24, 2025
