Pitchfork has too many people named Paul Thompson working for them.

sure they have. all their opinions are so blatantly contrived that it's almost laughable. you can predict every album's score before they even come out. drake's next album will be between 8.3-8.6, the next billy woods or ka album will be between 7.7-8.0...their reviews are very predictable and as a result they've become boring to me.

eh. i don't know that being shocking for its own sake is a mark of good criticism.

that's not what im saying though. my point is that it doesn't seem like they're reviewing albums on an individual basis anymore. like their reviews on the past 2 drake albums don't sound like honest examinations of his musical output, but rather a review site that isn't quite ready to jump ship on drake yet because it would hurt their business/fanbase...I mean it makes sense because they are a business after all, but I'm just saying their bias definitely exists.

i think positive drake reviews are more about drinking the kool-aid than about protecting business interests, in pitchfork's case. they're the only major site willing to publish negative reviews of huge rappers, and i think they should be commended for that.
