Jul 31, 2015 "Well, I wanna be the dude that came in and made the stand up rap With the random rap and the man like that for the people that was anti-rap Yeah the fans of rap started recognizing anti-rap is ironically one of the real brands of rap left"
Jul 31, 2015 I somewhat agree with what WPG was saying. I don't think Lil Dicky is a racist or anything but some of his stuff makes me feel some type of way (I'm black btw if that helps to justify my sentiments). Like this Lion King song I found of him. Before he rapped he said he would tell the story of the Lion King like a thug would or something along those lines. That made me feel a little uncomfortable. His rapping voice gives me a similar feeling to that of Iggy Azalea's in that he puts on a blaccent for songs. And the whole anti-rap doing things differently thing in the OP video didn't really register with me. Every rapper in the game before him weren't tough, serious, one dimensional rappers who didn't rap about much but it seemed like that was what he was implying. Plus that whole suburban struggle thing was really offputting. I think he's decent and funny and I'm not one of those types who preach about cultural appropriation but he just comes off as a rapper who makes music for that "eminem, logic, g eazy, lil dicky and hoodie allen are the best because they rap about more than just hoes and money" youtube audience. I have some mixed feelings about him but like Charlie said, he probably doesn't mean any harm by it at all and his self-deprecating humor cushions the blow a bit. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and check out his album he dropped today to see if it's good.
Jul 31, 2015 I think that's a big reach if you have ever heard his talking voice he sounds exactly the same. Iggy has an Australian voice and tries to sound like Nicki Minaj ...big difference
Jul 31, 2015 I think @WPG not caring about white people is silly obviously -- we are an entitled people so why should he The issue to me is how he overlooks sexism, homophobia and anti semitism in rap -- casual topics by a plurality of classic artists. It's all conditional which is why dicky should be taken within context too.
Aug 1, 2015 I heard his talking voice before I posted that. His talking voice is definitely different than his rapping voice. It's not as big of a difference as Iggy's but they both rap with blaccents
Aug 1, 2015 people really catching feels over a skinny white jewish dude enjoying the art of rap are some lames. has this s--- become a black exclusive genre? lil dicky has an appreciation for the craft. he just is a comedy rapper, but he can actually spit. check out Antagonist. he's just someone having fun with it. he doesn't put on a whole different persona like iggy so i don't think that's a fair comparison. apples to oranges. on a side note, pillow talking has to be my favorite track on here.
Aug 1, 2015 If you think race and class go hand in hand in 2015, I don't know what to tell you. Group A is worse off than group B, therefore it's okay to be a bigot to group B. This whole monopoly on empathy is ridiculous in the first place.
