Come on, you must be joking.

I also was expecting and hoping for a 2001 sounding album. Killer beats and verses, just like 15+ years ago.
When I first listened to Compton I was disappointed, but that was after hearing half the album.
After listening to the album for 2 or 3 times I really liked it alot! It's not 2001, but it is a very good album. And we're 15 years later so Dre also has to make sure the youngsters dig this album.
I gotta say I dont really like the Kendrick style tracks, but to be honest, I don't hate a single track on this album.

The only thing I don't like is the Eminem feature. He just doesnt fit this album with his flow

What I'm hoping for is Dre will release a 2001 sounding album just for the "oldskool" fans. Just fill that s--- up with the tracks that are in his vault

Topping The Chronic and 2001 is impossible, thats the reason Detox was scrapped. Compton is a whole new concept in a whole new direction, it's not supposed to be a sequel, its supposed to stand on its own.

I think Dre realised he'll never be able to attain those same heights of the 90's again. Instead, he put together a very mature, meticulously crafted project with his signature sound (albeit, updated to accommodate for new hip hop fans - remember 2001 was 16 years ago) with some awesome new talent and some of the legendary OG's.

@Arch Dogg, I highly recommend trying to listen to it again with a more open mindset. While you're at it, do the same for GKMC and TPAB.

That is exactly what I always expected Detox (or in this case Compton) to be. A modern Chronic 2001 with his best production yet and features from his normal cast plus his new proteges that he's gained since the last album (like 50, Game, Kendrick, etc). I'm hoping the album grows on me like it did for you. I still plan on buying a physical copy when they come out just to have it in my collection.

If you take away My Diary (one of Dre's best ever solo tracks) and Eminem's phenomenal Medicine Man verse my rating would drop down to a 2/10.

So you're saying that 2 good tracks out of nearly 20 makes this 4/10

Statistically speaking that doesn't add up

I like Genocide, Loose Cannons, Deep Water, One Shot One k--- and Talking to my Diary (Snoop, Kendrick & Jon Connor saved this album)... I love Darkside/Gone, incredible song. Deleted everything else quickly, especially Medicine Man which is unlistenable because of Eminem. A huge part of the album is drowned in those weird pseudo-cinematic autotuned verses, skits and awful hooks that are probably supposed to make the album sound modern... but sometimes it sounds more like MBDTF's r-----ed little brother to me

"Talk About It" really is the worst thing Dre has ever done...

I'm not saying that i hate it or i don't like it but i really expect a better Album.
The features aren't that good for me except of the og's and Jon Conner.
I still don't like Kendrick, i can't listen to King Mez and the other ones.
I know he is around 50 years old but Dre also sounded weirdo.
It's not a bad Album but it is nowhere near to be classic Album

I don't know why others get so upset when someone has a different opinion on a popular album like this. To me it's more fun and interesting to hear different points of view rather than everyone agreeing.

I've only listened to the album about one and a half times so far but I wasn't really blown away by the majority of it. I set my expectations high and it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. There are a few songs I really like so far but there's not much at all that I can see myself wanting to replay for years and years like 2001 and the chronic albums. But hopefully that will still change, I'm certainly happy to get a new Dre album though. It's a good album I just don't think it's anywhere near the other 2.

OK @Arch Dogg As I said before I am old enough to remember getting The Chronic when it first came out. I know where you are coming from, nothing pleases me more than a thumping west coast album, The Chronic, 2001, Doggystyle, Murder Was The Case OST, Dogg Food, Above the Rim OST, Gridlock'd, they are all classics for me. I was hoping for an album like this, especially after hearing the Hey Young World beat.
I first listened to Compton on the morning of the 7th and when I heard the track after the info I thought WTF is this s---? What has Dre done? but then threw all my expectations out of the window and decided to listen to it as just an album on its own merit and honestly, I loved it, I can still hear the old Dre in TTMD and Its All On Me and thats fine for me, I love the Dre and snoop collabs, Kendrick is the future of the west coast but time moves on, it will never go back to being like it was in the golden era of hip hop. Most of these people on this board were not even born when Chronic first came out. There will never be a greater more influential song than "G-Thang" it defined a whole era. I implore you dude to just listen to this and give it a chance, we can always bump 90s death row whenever we want :)
