Aug 20, 2015 I mean, obviously. I was just saying why not listen to instrumental stuff or electronica. Even melody focused rappers build off of lyrics. That's like saying you like jazz pieces but hate the scales. Vocal melody is a product of saying words in a certain way, so why not cut out the middle man and listen to some bleep bloop.
Aug 20, 2015 i usually don't, and it generally is, so you're right there. but my original statement wasn't even aimed at hip hop specifically as this isn't a music thread specific to just hip hop opinions (or I would've avoided it) but there are a lot of reasons I still find some of it enjoyable from time to time, as @WPG said it's not just lyrics. i quite enjoy the production and the overall groove of things, and peoples voices and their flows do wonders for me at times. a lot of hip hop tracks just sound great to me, and that's why I listen to what I do. it probably is why I produce and have never made any serious attempt at rapping or song writing. i don't listen to music in the same way a lot of other people do or relate to it the same way. I listen for the raw emotional sound the notes produce and the colors and images they bring to mind. I really only focus on lyrics at a subconscious level, and that's the way it's always been. it's why to this day, even songs I grew up with and would recognize instantly I know almost none of the lyrics to unless I've learned them simply to be able to sing along, I know almost none of the lyrics to songs I listen to regularly, from any genre. and even when I do know them I generally have no idea what the song is about. at the end of the day the voice is just another instrument to me. most of the music I listen to is lyrically very light or electronic focused/influenced. because there's still quite a bit of music that's lyrically focused but still appealing to my ears? it is not required that I care about the lyrics in hip hop in order to be able to enjoy and appreciate hip hop songs on occasion.
Aug 20, 2015 it's all good. i know my position on music is an odd one, so I fully expected someone to question it

Aug 20, 2015 given that these are opinions, that's impossible m8 this isn't a hip hop only opinion thread, and my post wasn't aimed solely at rap so
Sep 8, 2015 Was surprised to see there wasn't a thread for this already. Use this thread as a hub to post your unpopular opinions on music.
