Sep 12, 2015 there's no denying that in 2015 thug is making incredible music and is one of the top 5 rappers alive, but how long do you guys think this is sustainable for? his label appears to be a mess, he only sold 17,000 for Barter 6, and his legal troubles don't really help either...can thug really have longevity in this genre or will he just burn himself out and fall into irrelevancy? thoughts...
Sep 12, 2015 And there are lots of reasons why he only did 16k, despite being one of the most popular rappers of 2015.
Sep 12, 2015 I don't like his music, but he's a prime example of today's hip hop. I'm sure he'll get bigger and bigger
Sep 12, 2015 He a prime example cuz everybody tryna do his melodic style but nobody else can get it just right
Sep 12, 2015 it's hard to say. creatively, thug right now has to remind you of 2006-08 wayne; wayne came back down to earth as an artist and is still one of the biggest stars in music. two obvious differences: wayne was rapping and steadily building a national profile for almost a decade before that happened; by the time he started the tear, he was a semi-regular on mtv and at clear channel. he also spun all the mixtape hype into massive commercial success. people are coming around on thug, but there's no way he sells a million albums in a week this year or next year--or even what a million in 2008 would equate to when adjusting for deflation. the cynic in me thinks thug only keeps his cache as long as his music is this good. but the guy really does have an ear for pop hits, and if you string out a few of those solo, you could guarantee yourself a pension, so to speak. i think we'll be able to better judge this after the album comes out, which scares me, since 300 is such a mess.
Sep 12, 2015 Thug needs another mainstream hit single. Barter 6 had none but was more of a mixtape imo. HiTunes looks set up to be his official debut album. I don't think unlike Wayne that he will crossover to Pop radio though. Someone Thug could look to get as big as is Future.
