Nickelodeon, the media empire built largely on the foundation of one of the '90s' most successful cable networks, will apparently spin a whole new network out of that decades-old content.

Specifically, a new venture called The Splat will revisit the "Nicktoons" that marked Nickelodeon's most commercially-successful productions twenty years ago.

Before being announced at '90s Fest in Brooklyn, this weekend saw the launch of social media for The Splat. With a YouTube account and a website already launched, The Splast is now making its presence known on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

The aforementioned YouTube account released a video titled "The Splat is Coming," which you can see below.



Recently Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nickelodeon, said they had designs on some of their older IP.

“We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way,” Hicks said. “We are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they’ve told us multiple times they want to have brought back.”

He intimated that the shows wouldn't be brought back as full series, but likely as specials or one-shots that wouldn't demand too much of Nickelodeon's resources. With the old episodes generating revenue on a subnetwork, though, it seems likely any new content created would ideally see its costs offset by whatever revenue The Splat generates.
