Exactly. I think that TRL interview was the peak of his popularity. The VMAs were a big deal back then. Em's performance was always the highlight of the show and the other artists and commentators seemed to have a genuine worry about what he was gonna do. The controversy he created back then was extreme. I remember my parents confiscating my Eminem albums after they looked up the lyrics to MMLP. They made me sit at the kitchen table with them and listen to k--- You. After Em's verse about "raping his own mother" my mom started crying and stormed out of the room. And my step-dad goes "You think this s--- is funny? Do you agree with the things this lunatic is saying?!" I can't think of any artist that has had that kind of impact before or since.

I was in middle school/high school during his prime, and he was ridiculously huge.

He was a phenomenon. Everything the guy did, was talked about at school, on the news, or where ever.

It was insane, looking back.

Every song, I swear, people would listen like "What the f--- is this guy going to say next?"

You'd tune in to the VMA's, and wanted to see how he interacted with all of the people he dissed, or his performances.

There was always a ton of suspense revolving around Eminem's albums (mainly MMLP, TES and Encore).

After Encore, it really dropped dramatically, and 50 Cent kind of became "the guy".

The only other artists I can think of who were on his level were like Britney Spears and NSYNC.

I remember this dude absolutely shut down Times Square during TRL (which was a crazy popular TV show at the time)
