Originally from Chicago but was also raised in Atlanta equally. I'm 35 so I'm kind of passed the fanatic stage but I will say Thug reminds me of a post-Southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusik version of Andre 3000. Not for his lyrical dexterity but in terms of him being this funky, out-of-the box, space-age, bizarre character that epitomized rock-n-roll just as much as he is hardcore hip hop. I actually think he's good for the game. his music is not really all that vulgar, he knows how to flow, his ear for music is top rate, none of his songs sound alike and his ability to make a song in terms of being a recording artist is flawless. He's really gifted because you can't write the type of music that he makes with a pen and a pad. I judge his music with the same ear that I have when I listen to Dancehall music. I love Dancehall and Carib music even though I don't understand many of the lyrics and plenty of them dudes dress "fruity" to me but Thug just has a certain nonsensical groove similar to how Bone were dope but we couldn't understand a lot of their staccato musings on wax. You can tell Thug was heavily influenced by Wayne but I will go on to say he's more influenced by the "Lollipop" version of Wayne more than the "Best Rapper Alive" version of Wayne. He took that style and really updated it because Wayne as good as he is just doesn't have the vocal range that Thug has and I dare say no rapper has. He can do a lot with his voice which is why I wish he would mke more positive songs an put more substance in his rhymes but I digress. However,n ever did I think that me being someone who grew up listening to D.I.T.C, Big Pun, Nas, CNN, Mobb Deep, Heiroglyphics, Scarface, Common, the Wu, the Lox, EPMD, Rakim and LL Cool would be co-signing Thug as a genius. But it's true his music is special. Not a fan of a cat rocking women's clothes and trolling like he's gay but he's a true artist on some asexual Prince type of demonstration.
