look, if you are cooperative, polite, and just nice to police officers then they will reciprocate. I relate to that guy because I have had terrible experience with NYPD but if you start off with a positive attitude then that decreases the chances of something bad happening.

Yep, wish more people would realize this. It would stop a lot of these bad situations from happening. At the same time cops need to be trained better to handle people that are not cooperating, but it goes both ways.

You're right about that as well. but you have to remember wpg, you are white, you can sometimes get away with bad mouthing cops or even being a little smart, if i do that then its uncertain what my fate will be. ive learned thru experience to just not be mean to cops

oh absolutely. out of self-preservation, what you're saying is good advice, and i hope everyone heeds it just so they can get home safe at night. i wanted to reiterate that the responsibility falls zero percent on the victim.

I am serious -- there's a much larger conversation about the environments being cultivated in these schools and how detrimental some students are in a learning environment. I don't have all the answers (sway) and I'm not justifying the officer's actions... but unless you've attended or taught in a school where students can hijack a teachers time on a daily basis (which im assuming is the case here), im not sure you should be so certain in your stance.regardless of context, yes -- it's too bad the girl was assaulted. but there's a conditional argument at play here (wire season 4 for the uninitiated).

moreover, i'm not merely being a cranky, old conservative democrat. i invite you (and @WPG) and anyone else who tends to side on behalf of the "downtrodden" to visit http://www.schooldigger.com/ and share details on your own education background. for instance, in my middle school:

• 70.7% of students are receiving a free or discounted lunch
  
• Ranked 30th percentile for test scores
• 238th of 341 Maryland public middle schools (my county was 23rd of 24 Maryland school districts)
  
• (Not for nothing the racial makeup is: African American 62%, Hispanic 27.3%, White 4.7%)

I don't point this out to show my (obvious) street cred, but to suggest unless youve firsthand experienced how godawful some of these schools are, you can't rly opine on things like fault. its easy to have a kneejerk righteous reaction from a youtube clip: but until there's more accountability and culpability on all sides, nothings going to change

maybe she was a horribly disruptive student and maybe she needed to be kicked out of the classroom. the issue at hand w/r/t the video is the officer's use of force, which is not justified under any reasonable circumstances in a classroom. the guy's department agreed.

How can you not be aware that you are part of the whole "victim culture" that is making our country a bunch of cry babies...instead of even discussing how this girl blatantly disrespected and disobeyed a police officer, you're crying for her and talking about what a monster this cop is...

Once again, I'm not defending the cop...the guy took things too far, but why did that happen in the first place???
